Elvira Kurt
Elvira Kurt (born December 9, 1961) is a Canadian comedian, and was the host of the game show '' Spin Off''. She hosted the entertainment satire/talk show ''PopCultured with Elvira Kurt'', which began on The Comedy Network in Canada in 2005. That show's style was similar to ''The Daily Show with Jon Stewart''. It was cancelled due to poor ratings in early 2006. She is of Jewish Hungarian descent. Openly lesbian, she coined the term "fellagirly" to describe herself and other lesbians whose style is a blend of butch and femme, as opposed to strictly one or the other. Her comedic style relies heavily on complaints about celebrity culture, her own appearance, and the effects of aging. Kurt was the first out LGBT comedian to perform on national Canadian television, with her performance on CBC talk show ''Friday Night! With Ralph Benmergui'' in 1993. The Debaters
''The Debaters'' is a Canadian radio comedy show hosted by Steve Patterson. It airs on CBC Radio One, Saturdays at 1:30PM and Wednesdays at 11:30AM, Eastern Time. During each episode, two debates take place between two sets of two contestants. The topics are deliberately comedic, including "Apples are better than oranges" and "Darth Vader was a bad father". The winner is chosen by audience reaction at the end of the debate. Each season has approximately 33 new episodes. The Second City's Next Comedy Legend
''The Second City's Next Comedy Legend'' was a summer reality show that aired on Canada's CBC Television in 2007. Contestants improvise and create characters for their chance to win a spot on the Second City Canadian Touring Company. Judges are Joe Flaherty, Mick Napier, Dave Thomas and Elvira Kurt and the show is hosted by Trish Stratus. Current Second City Toronto performers Matt Baram, Paul Bates, Anand Rajaram and Naomi Snieckus act as mentors. The show is co-executive produced by Second City CEO Andrew Alexander and producer Morgan Elliot. ''My Fabulous Gay Wedding'' is a Canadian reality show hosted by comedian Scott Thompson in the first season and Elvira Kurt in the second. The series airs on the Global Television Network. It is broadcast in the U.S. as ''First Comes Love'', on Logo. In the first season, the show features a same-sex couple that plans to marry; the arrangements for the wedding are prepared, on two weeks' notice, by a team of wedding planners who are both heterosexual and homosexual. As with typical, Western heterosexual weddings, the general idea is to create a unique experience that reflects the personality of the people to be wed, while adding a special gay sensibility.
