Elvenes, Finnmark
Elvenes is a village in Sør-Varanger Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It is located at the mouth of the river Pasvikelva where it flows into the Bøkfjorden, a southern branch of the Varangerfjorden. The village lies about east of the village of Hesseng, along the European route E105. The town of Kirkenes lies about a drive to the northwest. History During the Occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany a camp for Soviet prisoners-of-war was located in Elvenes, and in 1942 about six hundred Norwegian teachers were sent to Elvenes for slave labour. Road bypass As part of an NOK 875 million programme of improvements to European Route E105, work started in 2014 on a bypass to the north of the village comprising a new 284-metre bridge over the Bøkfjorden and a 690-metre tunnel through the adjacent Trifonhøgda mountain. Finnmark
Finnmark (; se, Finnmárku ; fkv, Finmarku; fi, Ruija ; russian: Финнмарк) was a county in the northern part of Norway, and it is scheduled to become a county again in 2024. On 1 January 2020, Finnmark was merged with the neighbouring county of Troms to form the new Troms og Finnmark county. On 1 January 2024, the county will be demerged back to the counties Finnmark and Troms, after a decision made by parliament on 15 June 2022. Varangerfjorden
The Varangerfjord ( en, Varanger Fjord; russian: Варангер-фьорд, Варяжский залив; fi, Varanginvuono; sme, Várjavuonna) is the easternmost fjord in Norway, north of Finland. The fjord is located in Troms og Finnmark county between the Varanger Peninsula and the mainland of Norway. The fjord flows through the municipalities of Vardø, Vadsø, Nesseby, and Sør-Varanger. The fjord is approximately long, emptying into the Barents Sea. In a strict sense, it is a false fjord, since it does not have the hallmarks of a fjord carved by glaciers. Storskog
Storskog is a border crossing station on the Norwegian side of the Norway-Russia border, along the European route E105 highway. The crossing is located in Sør-Varanger Municipality in Finnmark county on the Norway side of the border. The Russian side is in Boris Gleb in Pechengsky District in Murmansk Oblast. There is a border crossing station on the Russian side also, and both have to be passed to enter the opposite country. There is a duty-free shop in Russia between the stations. Storskog is the only legal land border crossing between Norway and Russia. Bøkfjord Bridge
Bøkfjord Bridge (Norwegian: Bøkfjordbrua) is a road bridge which crosses Paatsjoki river at its mouth into Bøkfjord, in Sør-Varanger municipality in Troms og Finnmark, Norway. The main bridge was built in parts in Nordhausen, Germany, assembled in Wilhelmshaven, Germany and transported by boat to the place. It was put into place on May 20, 2017.
