Elswick, Lancashire
Elswick is a rural village and civil parish on the Fylde coast of Lancashire, England. At the 2011 Census, it had a population of 1,079. At the Norman conquest of England in 1066, Elswick was a small agricultural community in the hundred of Amounderness. The village was originally part of the ecclesiastical parish of St Michael's on Wyre. A Nonconformist chapel was built in Elswick before 1650. Elswick is part of the local government district of Fylde and the parliamentary constituency of Fylde. It lies approximately east of Blackpool and north-west of Preston. History Elswick was listed in the ''Domesday Book'' of 1086 as ''Edeleswic''. In later documents it was recorded variously as ''Etleswhic'', ''Etheliswyck'' and ''Elleswyk''. Elswick ( ) is a district and electoral ward of the city and metropolitan borough of Newcastle upon Tyne, England, 1.9 miles west of the city centre, bordering the River Tyne. Historically in Northumberland, Elswick became part of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1835. Elswick is home to the Newcastle Utilita Arena; and Newcastle College, with approximately 45,000 students. History In Roman times the Vallum, a defensive barrier behind Hadrian's Wall, reached its easternmost limit in Elswick. The Wall itself carried on as far as Wallsend. The township of Elswick had originally formed part of the Barony of Bolam and was owned by Tynemouth Priory from 1120-1539, with a fishery present on the site. One of the earliest references to the coal mining industry of the north east occurs in 1330, when it was recorded that the Prior of Tynemouth let a colliery, called Heygrove, at "Elstewyke" for a rent of £5 per year. Elswick, Saskatchewan
Elswick is a ghost town in Cymri Rural Municipality, Saskatchewan, Canada. The town site was on the Canadian Northern Railway line from Lampman to Radville. The town had a box-car train station, grain elevator, small store and post office. The town site was abandoned by the railway in 1927 and the rail-line abandoned in 1951. Elswick (automobile)
The Elswick was an English automobile produced in Newcastle upon Tyne from 1903 until 1907. It was a car built mainly from bought-in parts. The front featured a round radiator. In 1904 the range offered included a 6 hp single-cylinder model with De Dion-Bouton engine, a 20 hp with Brouhot 4-cylinder and 24 hp with a Mutel engine. By 1906 the 20 and 24 hp models seem to have been dropped and alongside the 6 hp single were the four-cylinder 15/20 hp and 24/30 hp and a six-cylinder engine of 26/30 hp.
