Elst, Gelderland
Elst is a town in the municipality of Overbetuwe in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is situated in the Betuwe, between the cities of Arnhem and Nijmegen. Elst has 21,447 inhabitants. Elst is known for its Roman temples, which are situated under the Saint Werenfried church. Elst was a separate municipality until 2001, when it became a part of Overbetuwe. H. J. Heinz Company's sauce factory for the European market is located south of the town centre. ''Elstar'' is an apple cultivar that was developed in Elst in the 1950s. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick. Elst Railway Station
Elst is a railway station located in Elst, Netherlands. The station was opened on 15 June 1879 and is located on the Arnhem–Nijmegen railway. The station is operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen, with the service towards Tiel operated by Arriva. Just south of the station the Elst–Dordrecht railway branches off towards Tiel. The station has 3 platforms, a waiting area with multiple covered waiting areas. There is a bus stop located at the west side of the station, a parking garage on the east side, and bicycle sheds on both sides At the time when the Elst–Dordrecht railway had an important significance for freight transport, was there a shunting yard (without a shunting hump) located east of the station. The tracks were broken up in the 1980s, and the location is no longer visible since the car and bicycle tunnels were built. Dirk Wanner Proper (born 24 February 2002) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Eredivisie club NEC. Club career Born in Elst, Gelderland, Proper started playing football at amateur club SV Spero before joining the NEC youth academy at the age of nine, where he was quickly regarded as one of the club's most promising prospects. He made his professional debut in the Dutch second-tier Eerste Divisie on 13 December 2019 in a 3–2 loss to Almere City. In January 2020, Proper was definitively promoted to the NEC first team. Jeffrey Leiwakabessy (born 23 February 1981) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a left back. Club career Born in Elst, Gelderland, Leiwakabessy played his first professional seasons with NEC Nijmegen. In 2006–07 he moved to Alemannia Aachen in Germany, which had just returned to the Bundesliga after a four-decade absence; during the campaign he appeared in all 34 league matches, but could not help prevent the team's immediate relegation. After one more season in Aachen, Leiwakabessy joined Anorthosis Famagusta FC in the Cypriot First Division. He went on to feature in twelve 2008–09 UEFA Champions League games as the side overachieved in the group stage, even though it was eventually ousted as last. Paul Kuypers
Paul Herman Felix Kuypers (4 June 1939, Elst (Overbetuwe), Gelderland - d. near Ierapetra, Crete, Greece, 9 September 1971) was a Dutch agriculture expert, widely known in Ierapetra as the "Dutchman". He is credited with introducing new planting techniques first on Syros island and later in Ierapetra, Crete. He arrived in Ierapetra in 1966 and co-operated with local farmers where he introduced greenhouse techniques revolutionizing agricultural production procedures. He settled in the town of Ierapetra along with his wife and their child. He died in a car accident on the highway near Ierapetra in 1971. Petrus Antonius Laurentius Kartner (11 April 1935 – 8 November 2022) was a Dutch musician, singer-songwriter and record producer who performed under the stage name Vader Abraham (''Father Abraham''). He wrote around 1600 songs. Early life and songwriting Kartner was born on 11 April 1935. He started his singing career at the age of eight, by winning a local festival. He lived with his family in Amsterdam and worked in a chocolate factory. Kartner worked as a promoter and producer at record label Dureco with Annie de Reuver, with whom he formed Duo X.
