Elsmere is a home rule-class city in Kenton County, Kentucky, in the United States. The population was 8,451 at the 2010 census. Geography Elsmere is located in western Kenton County at (39.001475, -84.603116). It is bordered to the north and east by Erlanger, to the south by Independence, and to the west by Florence in Boone County. The Dixie Highway (U.S. Routes 25, 42, and 127) forms the northern border of the city and leads northeast to Covington and southwest to the center of Florence. According to the United States Census Bureau, Elsmere has a total area of , of which , or 0.73%, are water. History The community was first settled in 1885 as "South Erlanger". Elsmere organized as a city in 1896, renamed after Elsmere Avenue in Norwood, Ohio, the hometown of one of its founders. Boone County is a county located in the northern part of the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 135,968, making it the fourth-most populous county in Kentucky. The Kenton County School District (the definite article is part of the district's official name) is a local education agency headquartered in Ft. Wright, Kentucky and is the public school system for Kenton County outside of those cities who have Independent School Districts. Lloyd Memorial High School is a high school located in Erlanger, Kentucky. Part of the Erlanger-Elsmere School District, it has an enrollment of 515 students in grades 9–12. Its boundary includes portions of Erlanger, Edgewood, and Elsmere. History Lloyd Memorial High School was established in 1928 upon the merger of the Erlanger and Elsmere school districts. Erlanger-Elsmere Independent Schools, Erlanger/Elsmere School District, or Erlanger-Elsmere Schools is a school district headquartered in Erlanger, Kentucky, in the Greater Cincinnati Area.
