Elrose, Saskatchewan
Elrose is a town located just to the north of the Coteau Hills. It is south of Rosetown and north of Swift Current on Highway 4 and Highway 44. A community in the middle of an agricultural economy, Elrose has also become a local hub of activity in the oil industry. The town is surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Monet No. 257. History Some homesteaders and other settlers were established in the area before the arrival of the railroads, being situated along the remains of the historic Swift Current-Battleford Trail, but the majority of newcomers arrived by rail later. In 1909, the '' Rural Municipality Monet 257, Saskatchewan'' was organized. It was named after a local farmer, Fortunat Monet (pronounced Monette). The town of Elrose was originally called LaBerge after local landowner Albert LaBerge. Hughton, Saskatchewan
Hughton is a hamlet in Monet No. 257, Saskatchewan, Canada. The hamlet is located at along Highway 44 approximately southwest of the City of Saskatoon. History The first settlers arrived in the area around 1907. The settlement of the region was eventually speeded up by the construction of the Canadian Northern Railway in 1913. The first school in the district of Hughton was built 6 miles east, while around 1910 a second school was built nearer to the future town site, about 1 mile south east. A post office was opened on the homestead of John G.Ritchie in July 1911 and named Stoford. The Office was moved to the town site by F.A.Cameron in April 1914. After the CNOR's arrival in 1913 a town site was hurriedly settled and quickly counted an assortment of businesses ranging from a 3-story hotel, the station, a Union Bank, stores, elevators, the restaurant, a lumber yard, a butcher, a blacksmith and a barber shop/poolroom to name a few. Wartime is an Unincorporated area, unincorporated community and former hamlet, within the Rural Municipality of Monet No. 257, Saskatchewan, Canada. The community is located along Saskatchewan Highway 44, Highway 44 approximately 13 km west of Elrose, Saskatchewan, Elrose along Canadian National Railway, Canadian National Railway's Elrose sub-division track. The community once boasted a train station built in 1914 which was demolished in 1978, two grain elevators; a Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and a Alberta Pacific Grain Company, Federal elevator as well as a wooden water tank. The elevators have disappeared but the water tower is still standing and in use. Etymology Settlers began arriving in the area around 1909 and by the fall of 1913 construction of the Canadian National Railway, CN railway had reached as far as nearby Elrose, Saskatchewan. Located in west-central Saskatchewan, the Sun West School Division covers approximately 25,600 square kilometers. Rosetown-Elrose is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. The largest community is Rosetown with a population of 2,277. Smaller communities in the district include the towns of Outlook (pop. 1,936), Elrose (pop. 496), Kyle, Zealandia, and Eston; and the villages of Dinsmore, Harris, Beechy, Lucky Lake, and Conquest.
