Elphinstone Place
Elphinstone Place is a cancelled skyscraper project that was scheduled to be built in Glasgow, Scotland. The building, which had been in the planning stage since 2004 would have been a mixed-use development consisting of office, retail and residential. It was to be built on the site of the former Strathclyde Regional Council Headquarters. In July 2008 The developers Elphinstone announced that the building had been cancelled due to the difficulties arising from the subprime mortgage crisis, with one of the main financial backers of the project being the failed Lehman Brothers. Although ground work had been completed for the tower it was indicated by the developer that a "fall-back project is not in place" for the site. At 39-stories the structure would have been the tallest building in both Glasgow and Scotland. Madan Theatre Company, also known as Madan Theatres Limited or Madan Theatres in short, was a film production company founded by Jamshedji Framji Madan, one of the pioneers of Indian Cinema. Elphinstone Hall
Elphinstone Hall is a large hall belonging to the University of Aberdeen, located at their King's College campus in Old Aberdeen. It is a 20th-century building which replaced the "Common Hall" and is named after Bishop William Elphinstone, the founder of the University. An arcade dominates the front of the building, behind which lie a reception area and then the large, wood-panelled hall with hammerbeam roof. Portraits of founding fathers of the university and other key figures from its history line the walls. A related suite of luxurious rooms called the Linklater Rooms run along the arcade, named after writer Eric Linklater, a graduate of the university. The complex includes catering facilities as well as cloakroom facilities. In front of the hall is a large lawn, which is popular with students and staff of the university in summer. There have been three baronetcies created for personswith the surname Elphinstone, two in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia and one in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. As of 2008 two of the creations are extant while one is dormant. The Elphinstone Baronetcy, of Elphinstone in the County of Lanark, was created in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia on 20 June 1628 for William Elphinstone. On his death in 1645 the title became dormant. The Elphinstone Baronetcy, of Logie in the County of Aberdeen, was created in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia on 2 December 1701 for James Elphinstone, with remainder to heirs male whatsoever. Lord Elphinstone is a title in the Peerage of Scotland created by King James IV in 1510. History The title of Lord Elphinstone was granted by King James IV in 1510 to Sir Alexander Elphinstone of Elphinstone, who was killed at the Battle of Flodden three years later. He was succeeded by his son, the second Lord, killed at the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh in 1547. His grandson, the fourth Lord, served as Lord High Treasurer of Scotland. His great-great-great-great-grandson, the eleventh Lord, sat in the House of Lords as a Scottish Representative Peer from 1778 to 1794. Port Elphinstone
Inverurie (Scottish Gaelic: ''Inbhir Uraidh'' or ''Inbhir Uaraidh'', 'mouth of the River Ury') is a town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland at the confluence of the rivers Ury and Don, about north-west of Aberdeen. Geography Inverurie is in the valley of the River Don at the centre of Aberdeenshire and is known locally as the Heart of the Garioch.
