Elm-Asse
Elm-Asse is a ''Samtgemeinde'' ("collective municipality") in the district of Wolfenbüttel, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It was named after the hill ranges Elm and Asse. Its seat is in the town Schöppenstedt. It was formed on 1 January 2015 by the merger of the former ''Samtgemeinden'' Asse and Schöppenstedt. Kneitlingen
Kneitlingen is a municipality in the Wolfenbüttel district in the German state of Lower Saxony. It is part of the ''Samtgemeinde'' Elm-Asse. The most recent German census counted a population of just 853 people. Geography Kneitlingen is situated in Brunswick Land between the Elm and Asse hill ranges. The municipality consists of the following four villages: * Ampleben * Bansleben * Eilum * Kneitlingen History Kneitlingen in the medieval Duchy of Saxony was first mentioned in an 1135 deed issued by Emperor Lothair III, whereby he granted the estates to the newly established Benedictine abbey of Königslutter. Schöppenstedt
Schöppenstedt is a small town in the district of Wolfenbüttel, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is the administrative seat of the ''Samtgemeinde'' ("collective municipality") of Elm-Asse. Geography It is situated southwest of the Elm and Asse hill ranges, about east of Wolfenbüttel, and southeast of Braunschweig. Since 2007, Schöppenstedt station is the eastern terminus on the Wolfenbüttel–Helmstedt railway line. History The settlement of ''Sciphinstete'' in the Derlingau region of Saxony, located on the trade route from Brunswick to the ''Königspfalz'' at Schöningen, was first mentioned in a 1051 deed. A church at the site probably existed in the days of the missionary bishop Hildegrim of Châlons before 827 AD; Schöppenstedt later became the seat of a Halberstadt archdeacon. Winnigstedt
Winnigstedt is a municipality in the district of Wolfenbüttel, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Geography The village is situated north of the Großes Bruch marshland and west of the Magdeburg Börde, with good soil quality in the surrounding area. In the south, it directly borders on the village of Hessen in Saxony-Anhalt. The municipal area comprises Winnigstedt proper and the southern quarter of Mattierzoll, which has been a toll station on the road from Wolfenbüttel to Halberstadt (called Hessendamm, present-day Bundesstrasse No. 79) for centuries. It allowed travellers to cross the wetland on a causeway connecting the Brunswick-Lüneburg lands in the north with the territory of the Prince-Bishops of Halberstadt in the south. Hedeper is a municipality in the foothills of the Harz in east Lower Saxony. It has about 600 inhabitants, and is in the administrative district of Wolfenbüttel. Geography Wolfenbüttel lies about 15 km to the north-west of Hedeper. Hedeper is the most southernly municipality in the higher municipality "Asse". It consists of the towns of Wetzleben (146 inhabitants) and Hedeper (401 inhabitants). History Both municipalities of Wetzleben and Hedeper were united in one common municipality in 1974. Hedeper was mentioned in a written document for the first time in 1188 and Wetzleben already in 994. Wolfenbüttel is a district in southeastern Lower Saxony, Germany. Neighboring districts are (clockwise from the north) the district-free City of Braunschweig, the district of Helmstedt, the district of Harz in Saxony-Anhalt, and the districts of Goslar, Hildesheim and Peine. The district-free city of Salzgitter cuts through the district of Wolfenbüttel in the southwest.
