Ellis Hagler
Ellis Pruitt "Dumpy" Hagler (May 2, 1908 – September 21, 1990) was an American college football player and coach. He also coached golf. He played and coached football under Wallace Wade. Hagler was president of the NCAA Golf Coaches Association, chairman of the Southern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference Golf Committees, and a member of the NCAA All-America selection committee. University of Alabama Hagler was a prominent guard for Wallace Wade's Alabama Crimson Tide football teams of the University of Alabama. He was selected All-Southern in 1928. Duke Football He followed his coach Wade and fellow assistant Herschel Caldwell to Duke University as an assistant and line coach for the Duke Blue Devils football teams. Barbour County, Alabama
Barbour County is a county in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 25,223. Its county seat is Clayton. Its largest city is Eufaula. Its name is in honor of James Barbour, who served as Governor of Virginia. History Barbour County was established on December 18, 1832, from former Muscogee homelands and a portion of Pike County. Between the years of 1763 and 1783 the area which is now Barbour County was part of the colony of British West Florida. After 1783 the region fell under the jurisdiction of the newly created United States of America. The Muscogee Creek Confederacy was removed to territory west of the Mississippi River. The fertile land was developed by southern migrants as large cotton plantations dependent on slave labor. 1942 Rose Bowl
The 1942 Rose Bowl was the 28th edition of the college football bowl game, played on Thursday, January 1, 1942. Originally scheduled for the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, it was moved to Durham, North Carolina, due to fears about an attack by the Japanese on the West Coast of the United States following the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The federal government prohibited large public gatherings on the West Coast for the duration of World War II; the first significant canceled event was the Rose Bowl Game scheduled for New Year's Day, 1942. The Oregon State Beavers of the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) defeated the host Duke Blue Devils of the Southern Conference 20–16 in Duke Stadium (now Wallace Wade Stadium) on the Duke University campus. The North Carolina Museum of History is a history museum located in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. It is an affiliate through the Smithsonian Affiliations program.
