Elliott Avent
Elliott Avent (born May 1, 1956) is a baseball coach, who is the current head baseball coach of the NC State Wolfpack. He attended North Carolina State University, but he did not play for the baseball program. In his 25th season of coaching the Wolfpack, Avent has compiled both the most wins and most losses of any head baseball coach in NC State history. Early life Avent attended North Carolina State University, and had intentions of playing college baseball for the Wolfpack, but when he saw the way coach Sammy Esposito treated other players Avent considered better than him, he decided to not try out for the team. Avent left NC State when he was only about 20 credits away from a degree in textiles in order to focus on a career as a baseball coach. NC State Wolfpack Baseball
The NC State Wolfpack baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate baseball program of North Carolina State University, based in Raleigh, North Carolina, United States. The team has been a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference since the conference's founding in the 1954 season. The program's home venue is Doak Field, which opened in 1966. Elliott Avent has been the head coach of the team since prior to the 1997 season. As of the end of the 2015 season, the Wolfpack have appeared in three College World Series and 32 NCAA Tournaments. They have won four ACC Tournament Championships and four ACC Regular Season Championships. As of the 2021 Major League Baseball season, 47 former Wolfpack players have played in Major League Baseball. The Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL or Cape League) is a collegiate summer baseball wooden bat league located on Cape Cod in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. One of the nation's premier collegiate summer leagues, the league boasts over one thousand former players who have gone on to play in the major leagues. History Pre-modern era Origins As early as the 1860s, baseball teams representing various Cape Cod towns and villages were competing against one another. The earliest newspaper account is of an 1867 game in Sandwich between the hometown "Nichols Club" and the visiting Cummaquid team. The 2011 NCAA Division I baseball tournament began on Friday, June 3, 2011 as part of the 2011 NCAA Division I baseball season. The 64 team double elimination tournament concluded with the 2011 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, on June 29, 2011. The 2008 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was held from May 30 through June 25, 2008 and was part of the 2008 NCAA Division I baseball season. The 64 NCAA Division I college baseball teams were selected out of an eligible 286 teams on May 26, 2008. Thirty teams were awarded an automatic bid as champions of their conference, and 34 teams were selected at-large by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee. Thirty-eight of the 64 selected teams participated in the 2007 tournament. The 2007 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was held from June 1 to 24, . Sixty-four NCAA Division I college baseball teams advanced to the post season tournament after having played through a regular season, and for some, a conference tournament. The 2007 tournament culminated with 8 teams advancing to the College World Series at historic Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska, on June 15. Unseeded Oregon State repeated as national champions, winning all five of its games in the 2007 CWS. Oregon State went undefeated through the College World Series, posting a 5–0 record. Sixty-four NCAA Division I college baseball teams met after having played their way through a regular season, and for some, a conference tournament, to play in the NCAA tournament. The tournament culminated with 8 teams in the College World Series at historic Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska. A major format change for the regionals began in 2005. Rather than play both games of the championship round on the third day (usually Sunday) of the tournament, the "if necessary" championship game would be played on the fourth day of the tournament (usually Monday), allowing a team in the loser's bracket to rest some of its pitchers for a winner-take-all contest. 1999 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The 1999 NCAA Division I baseball tournament was played at the end of the 1999 NCAA Division I baseball season to determine the national champion of college baseball. The tournament was expanded to 64 teams for 1999, adding a Super Regional. The tournament concluded with eight teams competing in the College World Series, a double-elimination tournament in its fifty third year. Sixteen regional competitions were held to determine the participants in the final event, with each winner advancing to a best of three series against another regional champion for the right to play in the College World Series.
