Elliot Madore
Elliot Madore (born April 15, 1987) is a Canadian lyric baritone with an international operatic career. Early life and education Madore graduated from the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program and received both his Master of Music degree in Opera and Bachelor of Music degree in Voice from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Career In 2010, at the age of 22, he won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. He has since performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Zürich Opera House, San Francisco Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Bavarian State Opera, the Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto and the Dutch National Opera. In December 2015 he sang the title role of Figaro in ''The Barber of Seville'' at the Metropolitan Opera. In September 2015 he made his San Francisco Opera debut singing Anthony in '' Sweeney Todd''. The libretto was based on Pierre Beaumarchais's French comedy ''The Barber of Seville'' (1775). The première of Rossini's opera (under the title ''Almaviva, o sia L'inutile precauzione'') took place on 20 February 1816 at the Teatro Argentina, Rome, with designs by Angelo Toselli. ''Pelléas et Mélisande'' (''Pelléas and Mélisande'') is an opera in five acts with music by Claude Debussy. The French libretto was adapted from Maurice Maeterlinck's symbolist play of the same name. ''La scala di seta'' (''The Silken Ladder'' or ''Die seidene Leiter'') is an operatic '' farsa comica'' in one act by Gioachino Rossini to a libretto by Giuseppe Maria Foppa. It was first performed in Venice, Italy, at the Teatro San Moisè on 9 May 1812. The overture has been frequently recorded and continues to be featured in the modern concert repertoire. From 1810 to 1813, the young Rossini composed four Italian ''farse'', beginning with ''La cambiale di matrimonio'' (''The Bill of Marriage''), his first opera, and ending with ''Il Signor Bruschino''. These types of short pieces were popular in Venice at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. The text, by Antonio Somma, was based on Eugène Scribe's libretto for Daniel Auber's 1833 five act opera, '' Gustave III, ou Le bal masqué''. The plot concerns the assassination in 1792 of King Gustav III of Sweden who was shot, as the result of a political conspiracy, while attending a masked ball, dying of his wounds thirteen days later. It was to take over two years between the commission from Naples, planned for a production there, and its premiere performance at the Teatro Apollo in Rome on 17 February 1859. ''Pagliacci'' (; literal translation, "Clowns") is an Italian opera in a prologue and two acts, with music and libretto by Ruggero Leoncavallo. The opera tells the tale of Canio, actor and leader of a commedia dell'arte theatrical company, who murders his wife Nedda and her lover Silvio on stage during a performance. ''Pagliacci'' premiered at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan on 21 May 1892, conducted by Arturo Toscanini, with Adelina Stehle as Nedda, Fiorello Giraud as Canio, Victor Maurel as Tonio, and Mario Ancona as Silvio. ''Tri sestry'' (''Three Sisters'') is a 1998 opera by Péter Eötvös to a Russian libretto by Eötvös and Claus H. Henneberg based on Anton Chekhov's play ''Three Sisters''. It was the composer's first large-scale opera. The premiere at the Opéra National de Lyon, directed by Ushio Amagatsu, was conducted by Kent Nagano, who had commissioned the work. The production was then also shown in Paris, Brussels, and at the Wiener Festwochen festival in 2002. It became an opera played at several European opera houses including the Vienna State Opera in 2016 and the Oper Frankfurt in 2018. Nello Santi
Nello Santi (22 September 1931 – 6 February 2020) was an Italian conductor. He was associated with the Opernhaus Zürich for six decades, and was a regular conductor at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. He was focused on Italian repertoire, especially operas by Verdi and Puccini, in a style following the tradition of Toscanini. He made sound and video recordings of Italian operas, including in 1971 Leoncavallo's ''Pagliacci'' with Plácido Domingo, Montserrat Caballé and Sherrill Milnes, in 1976 Montemezzi's ''L'amore dei tre re'' with Anna Moffo, Domingo and Pablo Elvira, in 2000 Verdi's '' I due Foscari'', and in 2006 Donizetti's ''Don Pasquale'' in a Zürich production. Tomáš Netopil (born 18 July 1975 in Přerov) is a Czech conductor. He conducted the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra in 2005 and made his debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra in May 2006. In 2006, he also conducted at the Salzburg Festival and l'Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Parma. Netopil studied violin and conducting in his home town in the Czech Republic as well as at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with Jorma Panula, who educated many prominent conductors.
