Elli Perkins
Elli Perkins (née Present; 1949 – March 13, 2003) was an American glass art, glass artist and a Scientology, Scientologist who lived in western New York (state), New York State, working as a auditing (Scientology), senior auditor at the Church of Scientology branch in Buffalo, New York, Buffalo. When her son, Jeremy, began to show signs of schizophrenia, Perkins attempted to treat him in Scientology and psychiatry, accordance with Scientology instead of seeking proper psychiatry, psychiatric care. Jeremy's condition progressed to the point where he felt his mother was poisoning him with the vitamin supplements she forced him to take. After a suicide attempt, Jeremy murdered his mother. The killing received substantial press coverage, with the implication being that Perkins' refusal to allow Jeremy to be treated by a psychiatrist caused his eventual outburst, and her death. Suppressive Person, often abbreviated SP, is a term used in Scientology to describe the "antisocial personalities" who, according to Scientology's founder L. Ron Hubbard, make up about 2.5% of the population. A statement on a Church of Scientology website describes this group as including notorious historic figures such as Adolf Hitler. The term is often applied to those whom the Church perceives as its enemies, such as those whose "disastrous" and "suppressive" acts are said to impede the progress of individual Scientologists or the Scientology movement.
