Elkhart Truth
''The Elkhart Truth'' is a daily news organization based in Elkhart, Indiana, that covers Elkhart County in northern Indiana and was founded as a newspaper in 1889. History ''The Elkhart Truth'' was first printed October 15, 1889. It was founded by Charles G. Conn, who served as Elkhart's mayor, as well as a U.S. congressman. Additionally, Conn was the owner of musical instrument manufacturing empire C.G. Conn Ltd., which is sometimes referred to as Conn Instruments. In 1915, Conn's business interests were taken over by a group of investors headed by Carl D. Greenleaf. Shortly afterwards, Greenleaf and A.H. Beardsley purchased the newspaper from investors. John F. Dille Jr., a classmate of one of Greenleaf's sons, took over responsibility for ''The Elkhart Truth's'' operations in 1952 and eventually bought out Greenleaf and Beardsley. Paxton Media Group of Paducah, Kentucky, is a privately held media company with holdings that include newspapers and a TV station, WPSD-TV in Paducah. David M. Paxton is president and CEO. Michiana is a region in northern Indiana and southwestern Michigan centered on the city of South Bend, Indiana. The Chamber of Commerce of St. Joseph County, Indiana defines Michiana as St. Joseph County and "counties that contribute at least 500 inbound commuting workers to St. Joseph County daily." Those counties include Elkhart, La Porte, Marshall, St. Joseph, and Starke in Indiana, and Berrien and Cass in Michigan. As of the 2010 census, those seven counties had a population of 856,377 (647,271 in Indiana and 209,106 in Michigan). The name is a portmanteau of "Michigan" and "Indiana" and was chosen as the winning entry, purportedly submitted by Indiana politician Thurman C. Crook, among others, in a contest to name the area held by the Associated South Bend Merchants in 1934. WTRC (1340 AM) is a commercial radio station licensed to Elkhart, Indiana, and serving the South Bend metropolitan area. It is owned by Federated Media. The station airs a soft oldies and adult standards radio format provided by Westwood One's "America's Best Music" syndicated service, and is a Fox News Radio affiliate.
