Elizur Kirke Hart
Elizur Kirke Hart (April 8, 1841 – February 18, 1893) was an American banker and politician who served one term as a U.S. Representative from New York from 1877 to 1879. Biography Born in Albion, New York, to Elizur Hart and Loraine Field, Hart attended the Albion Academy. Hart's father was a prominent member of the community, establishing the Orleans County Bank in 1860 with a capital of $100,000. Elizur K. Hart was first employed as a bookkeeper until the bank was reorganized as the Orleans County National Bank in 1865. He was then promoted to teller and eventually cashier upon the death of his father in 1870. Following the death of Joseph Cornell in 1890, Elizur assumed the position of bank president, serving in that capacity until his death in 1893. He served as member of the 95th New York State Legislature (1872) as a Republican. New York’s 30th congressional district was a congressional district for the United States House of Representatives in New York. It was eliminated as a result of the 2000 U.S. Census. It was last represented by Jack Quinn who was redistricted into the 27th district. Horace Greeley
Horace Greeley (February 3, 1811 – November 29, 1872) was an American newspaper editor and publisher who was the founder and newspaper editor, editor of the ''New-York Tribune''. Long active in politics, he served briefly as a congressman from New York, and was the unsuccessful candidate of the new Liberal Republican Party (United States), Liberal Republican Party in the 1872 United States presidential election, 1872 presidential election against incumbent President Ulysses S. Grant, who won by a landslide. Greeley was born to a poor family in Amherst, New Hampshire. He was apprenticed to a printer in Vermont and went to New York City in 1831 to seek his fortune. Mount Albion Cemetery
Mount Albion Cemetery is located on New York State Route 31 in the Town of Albion, New York, United States, east of the village of Albion, which owns and operates it. It is a rural cemetery established in the 1840s on a glacial drumlin. From its original , it has almost tripled in size. Graves are on terraces in the rolling terrain. Tall trees, including some locally rare species, maintain a parklike atmosphere. Its notable monuments include a local Civil War memorial, a chapel and entrance arch. Boldt Castle
Boldt Castle is a major landmark and tourist attraction in the Thousand Islands region of the U.S. state of New York. George Boldt
George Charles Boldt Sr. (April 25, 1851 – December 5, 1916) was a Prussian-born American hotelier. A self-made millionaire, he influenced the development of the urban hotel as a civic social center and luxury destination. Life and career He was born as Georg Karl Boldt in Bergen auf Rügen, Prussia, on April 25, 1851. He immigrated to the United States in 1864. He began as a kitchen worker in New York and, at age 25, was hired (by his future father-in-law) to manage the dining room of Philadelphia's most exclusive gentlemen's club, The Philadelphia Club. The Thousand Islands (french: Mille-Îles) constitute a North American archipelago of 1,864 islands that straddles the Canada–US border in the Saint Lawrence River as it emerges from the northeast corner of Lake Ontario. They stretch for about downstream from Kingston, Ontario. The Canadian islands are in the province of Ontario and the U.S. islands in the state of New York. The 45th United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, consisting of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. It met in Washington, D.C. from March 4, 1877, to March 4, 1879, during the first two years of Rutherford Hayes's presidency. The apportionment of seats in the House of Representatives was based on the Ninth Census of the United States in 1870. The Senate had a Republican majority, and the House had a Democratic majority. The 45th Congress remained politically divided between a Democratic House and Republican Senate.
