Elizabethtown Independent School District
Elizabethtown Independent Schools (EIS) is a school district headquartered in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Through the 2019–20 school year, its high school, Elizabethtown High School, served high school students in West Point, and therefore was a feeder high school of the West Point Independent School District, which only covered grades K-8. The West Point district closed at the end of that school year and merged into Hardin County Schools (HCS), which serves the rest of Hardin County apart from Fort Knox (which has its own federally administered schools). West Point students who had attended Elizabethtown High before the HCS merger will not be able to complete their education there; the last such students are not expected to graduate in 2023. Elizabethtown is a home rule-class city and the county seat of Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 28,531 at the 2010 census, and was estimated at 30,289 by the U.S. Census Bureau in 2019, making it the 11th-largest city in the state. It is included in (and the principal city of) the Elizabethtown–Fort Knox, Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is included in the Louisville/ Jefferson County–Elizabethtown–Madison, Kentucky-Indiana Combined Statistical Area. Hardin County is a county located in the central part of the U.S. state of Kentucky. Its county seat is Elizabethtown. The county was formed in 1792. Hardin County is part of the Elizabethtown-Fort Knox, KY Metropolitan Statistical Area, as well as the Louisville/ Jefferson County—Elizabethtown- Bardstown, KY- IN Combined Statistical Area. Elizabethtown High School is located in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, United States. A part of Elizabethtown Independent Schools (EIS), it is commonly referred to as E'Town High School or EHS. Elizabethtown High School ranked #7 in the state on the 2009 spring exam. The school has a population of 775 students and employs about 50 teachers. Thad Elmore has been the principal since July 1, 2021. Through the 2019–20 school year, it served high school students in West Point, and therefore was a feeder high school of the West Point Independent School District, which only covered grades K–8. West Point Independent School District
West Point Independent School District was a PreK-8 school district headquartered in West Point, Kentucky. It operated one school, West Point Independent School, with Elizabethtown High School being the main feeder high school. In 1804 the school was established. Circa 2002 the school had 180 students. In 2019 Wayne Lewis, the Kentucky Commissioner of Education, argued that he had "major concerns" on whether the district can continue to operate. In July 2019 the district was exploring whether to merge with Hardin County Schools, which would change the assigned high school of the territory to North Hardin High School. Fort Knox
Fort Knox is a United States Army installation in Kentucky, south of Louisville and north of Elizabethtown. It is adjacent to the United States Bullion Depository, which is used to house a large portion of the United States' official gold reserves, and with which it is often conflated.
