Elizabeth North is a northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia in the City of Playford. It is sandwiched between Main North Road to the east and the Gawler railway line to its west immediately north of Elizabeth and south of Smithfield. It is served by the Womma and Broadmeadows railway stations. It was established in the late 1950s as a residential suburb of the planned City of Elizabeth. Taylor is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. This district is named after Doris Irene Taylor MBE, a leading force in the founding of Meals on Wheels, and Labor activist. City Of Elizabeth
The City of Elizabeth was a local government area located in the northern suburbs of Adelaide and seated at Elizabeth from 1964 to 1997. History Prior to the 1950s, most of the area surrounding today's suburb of Elizabeth was farming estates. After the end of the Second World War and the accompanying shortage of materials, the state government decided that South Australia needed to grow and become an industrialised state. A satellite city was planned for northern metropolitan fringe of Adelaide, and the South Australian Housing Trust initiated a housing development program in the area, with a purchase of of rural land between the established townships of Salisbury and Smithfield. Broadmeadows Railway Station, Adelaide
Broadmeadows railway station is located on the Gawler line. Situated on the boundary between the northern Adelaide suburbs of Davoren Park and Elizabeth North, and is located from Adelaide station. History Broadmeadows opened in the 1950s, and was known as Elizabeth North railway station until 1961. It once had a ticket office and toilets either side of a shelter, but they were demolished in the 1980s, with the shelter demolished in the late 1990s or early 2000s, and replaced with a much smaller shelter. The underground pedestrian tunnel was closed and demolished in the late 1990s due to concerns of safety and vandalism. Womma Railway Station
Womma railway station is located on the Gawler line. Situated in the northern Adelaide suburb of Elizabeth North, it is from Adelaide station. History Womma opened in 1950. It had a small building on the platform which consisted of a shelter, with a ticket office and toilets on either side, but they were demolished in the 1980s and early 1990s. Only the shelter remains. Passengers were required to access the station via a pedestrian underpass, but it has since been closed due to concerns of safety and vandalism. Main North Road
Main North Road is the major north-south arterial route through the suburbs north of the Adelaide City Centre in the city of Adelaide, South Australia. It continues north through the settled areas of South Australia and is a total of long, from North Adelaide to out of Port Augusta. Davoren Park
Davoren Park is a suburb at the northern extent of the Adelaide metropolitan area, South Australia in the City of Playford. The suburb was formed as part of a merger between Elizabeth Field and the northern part of Elizabeth West on 11 November 1993. It is named after the Davoren family, who were early pioneers of the area. The Playford North Urban Renewal project to expand and upgrade the area commenced in 2007 and is expected to take 10–15 years.
