Elizabeth Francis
Elizabeth Francis (born July 25, 1909) is an American supercentenarian. She was born in Louisiana and currently resides in Houston, Texas. Biography Francis was born in St. Mary Parish, Louisiana on July 25, 1909 during the Taft presidency, although she is unsure of what town she was born in. Her mother died when she was very young, and she and her five siblings were sent to different homes, with her being sent to Houston where she was raised by an aunt. She lived next door to her sister, who lived to the age of 106, which made her and Francis among the oldest siblings on record. She had another sister who lived to the age of 95 and her father died when he was 99. She raised her children as a single mother. She moved into her current house in 1999, where she lives with her 94-year-old daughter, and is cared for by her 68-year-old granddaughter. The presidency of William Howard Taft began on March 4, 1909, when William Howard Taft was inaugurated as 27th president of the United States, and ended on March 4, 1913. Taft, was a Republican from Ohio. The protégé and chosen successor of President Theodore Roosevelt, he took office after easily defeating Democrat William Jennings Bryan in the 1908 presidential election. His presidency ended with his defeat in the 1912 election by Democrat Woodrow Wilson. Taft sought to lower tariffs--a tax on imports--then a major source of governmental income. However he was out-maneuvered. The new Payne–Aldrich Tariff Act of 1909 raised rates when most people expected reductions.
