Elizabeth Donnelly (engineer)
Elizabeth Donnelly is a British engineer and executive. She is currently the chief executive officer of Women's Engineering Society United Kingdom. Donnelly was appointed CEO on August 23, 2018. A systems engineer by education, Donnelly worked with companies such as Rolls-Royce. She was a founding member of the Royal Aeronautical Society’s (RAeS) Women in Aviation and Aerospace Committee. Career Donnelly began her career in Systems Engineering studying Databases and Systems Thinking: Managing Complexity at Open University before she specialized in Systems Thinking and graduated with a Masters in Systems Thinking in Practice. Rachel Parsons (engineer)
Rachel Mary Parsons (1885–1956), engineer and advocate for women's employment rights, was the founding President of the Women's Engineering Society in Britain on 23 June 1919. Early life Rachel Mary Parsons was born in 1885, to Sir Charles Algernon Parsons and his wife Katharine (d.1933), the daughter of William Froggatt Bethell of Rise Park, East Riding of Yorkshire. Her brother, Algernon George (Tommy) (b.1886), was killed on 28 April 1918 while a Major in the Royal Field Artillery. Her interest and aptitude for engineering and science was fostered from a young age by the engineering tradition in her family including her grandmother Mary Rosse and grandfather William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse. The Open University (OU) is a British public research university and the largest university in the United Kingdom by number of students. Women's Engineering Society
The Women's Engineering Society is a United Kingdom professional learned society and networking body for women engineers, scientists and technologists. It was the first professional body set up for women working in all areas of engineering, predating the Society of Women Engineers by around 30 years. History The society was formed on 23rd June 1919, after the First World War, during which many women had taken up roles in engineering to replace men who were involved in the military effort. Kirsten Bodley is the British current chief executive of the Institute of Asset Management and former chief executive officer of the Women’s Engineering Society. Early life and education Kirsten Bodley studied chemistry at King’s College before working as a senior group leader in Courtauld’s from September 1987 to July 1996. She then attended Imperial College, London and graduated with an MBA in innovation. When employed in Courtauld's, Bodley worked as a development chemist where she developed products and supervised scale-ups in the plant.
