Elisabethszell
Elisabethszell is a parish village (''Pfarrdorf'') in the municipality of Haibach in the Lower Bavarian county of Straubing-Bogen in Germany. History In 1346 in the place then known as Atzenzell, which belonged to the parish (''Pfarrei'') of Haselbach, a priory of Benedictine abbey of Oberalteich was established. It existed, with interruptions, until church land in Bavaria was seized in 1803. In 1498 the Benedictines were driven out by the Paulsdorfs at Falkenfels Castle. It was the Countess of Schwarzenberg, who had inherited Elisabethszell from her forebears, who allowed Oberalteich Abbey to buy back the priory estates for a moderate sum in 1621, whereupon the clergy returned to Elisabethszell. Secularisation in Bavaria in 1803 marked the end of the priory at Elisabethszell. In 1805, Elisabethszell, hitherto part of the parish of Haselbach, became an independent parish. Straubing-Bogen
Straubing-Bogen is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the eastern part of Bavaria, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Cham, Regen, Deggendorf, Dingolfing-Landau, Landshut and Regensburg. The independent town of Straubing is surrounded by the district. The seat of the government of the district ( Landratsamt) is located in Straubing. The only towns within the district itself are Bogen and Geiselhöring. Geography The main river is the Danube, which crosses the district from the west to the east. There are two major geographical regions in the district. One is the Gäuboden with the Danube region and lowlands, the other are the mountains of the Bavarian Forest (''Bayerische Wald''). Oberalteich Abbey (german: Abtei Oberalteich or ''Kloster Oberalteich''; sometimes ''Oberaltaich'') was a Benedictine monastery in Bogen, Bavaria, Germany. Haselbach is a municipality in the district of Straubing-Bogen in Bavaria, Germany. Geography Haselbach is located in the southern outskirts of the Bavarian Forest, approximately 11 kilometres (6,8 miles) north of the river Danube. The municipality comprises the village of Haselbach as well as 49 other named districts. History The village of Haselbach was first mentioned in 1130 and for centuries belonged to the estates of the Oberalteich monastery. At the end of the 17th century, the Danse-Macabre chapel, which today is the village's landmark and represented in the coat of arms, was built in the churchyard surrounding St. James' church. Bishop Ignatius von Senestrey (born 13 July 1818, Bärnau, Bavaria, Germany – d. 16 August 1906, Regensburg, Germany) was Bishop of Regensburg, Germany from 1858 to 1906. He was ordained a parish priest by on 19 March 1842, aged 23. in Regensburg, Germany. On 27 January 1858, aged 39, he was appointed Bishop of Regensburg and ordained a bishop two months later. He died on 16 August 1906, aged 88, in Regensburg. He had been a priest for 64 years and a bishop for 48 years.
