Elisabeth Of Brandenburg, Landgravine Of Thuringia
Elisabeth of Brandenburg ( – 1231) a member of the House of Ascania. She was a Margravine of Brandenburg by birth and by marriage Landgravine of Thuringia. She was the daughter of Margrave Albert II, Margrave of Brandenburg, Albert II of Brandenburg and his wife Matilda of Groitzsch, the daughter of Landgrave Conrad II, Margrave of Lusatia, Conrad II of Lusatia from the House of Wettin. In 1228 she married Landgrave Henry Raspe of Thuringia, the later anti-king of Germany. The marriage remained childless. Elisabeth died in 1231, at the age of 25, after three years of marriage. After her death, Henry married Gertrude of Babenberg, Landgravine of Thuringia, Gertrude of Babenberg and after Gertrude's death to Beatrix of Brabant. House Of Ascania
The House of Ascania (german: Askanier) was a dynasty of German rulers. It is also known as the House of Anhalt, which refers to its longest-held possession, Anhalt. The Ascanians are named after Ascania (or Ascaria) Castle, known as ''Schloss Askanien'' in German, which was located near and named after Aschersleben. The castle was the seat of the County of Ascania, a title that was later subsumed into the titles of the princes of Anhalt. History The earliest known member of the house, Esiko, Count of Ballenstedt, first appears in a document of 1036. He is assumed to have been a grandson (through his mother) of Odo I, Margrave of the Saxon Ostmark. From Odo, the Ascanians inherited large properties in the Saxon Eastern March. Esiko's grandson was Otto, Count of Ballenstedt, who died in 1123.
