Eliphalet Daniels
Eliphalet Daniels (September 13, 1713 – July 1799) was a British Colonial America-born military leader. He served as a commander in the New Hampshire Militia of Fort Sullivan in Kittery, now Maine. Daniels also served as an officer under Timothy Bedel's Regiment of Continentals. In August 1776 he offered a two dollar reward for a drummer who went AWOL from his post. History Eliphalet Daniels was born on September 13, 1713, in Durham, New Hampshire, British Colonial America. In 1747 he appealed for government relief from the governor of the Province of New Hampshire after being wounded and imprisoned. He had been a lieutenant in the Canada expedition of 1746 when he was wounded and captured. During the Revolutionary War in 1776, he commanded militia artillery troops at Fort Sullivan, succeeding Colonel Joshua Wingate in the role. Titus Salter
Captain Titus Salter (1722–1798) was an American military commander of militia forces in New Hampshire, a merchant, and a privateer. He helped draw up plans for the defense of Portsmouth. He was a military commander during the American Revolution. His home in Portsmouth is documented in a photograph held by the Library of Congress and is a site on area walking tours. The Journal of the House, Tuesday, December 30, 1777, ''New Hampshire Provincial Papers'', volume VIII, p. 758, documents the appointment Capt. Titus Salter as Commander of Fort Washington in New Hampshire. He was the son of John Salter who immigrated from England. There is a Salter Street in Portsmouth. Lieutenant General
Lieutenant general (Lt Gen, LTG and similar) is a three-star military rank (NATO code OF-8) used in many countries. The rank traces its origins to the Middle Ages, where the title of lieutenant general was held by the second-in-command on the battlefield, who was normally subordinate to a captain general. In modern armies, lieutenant general normally ranks immediately below general and above major general; it is equivalent to the navy rank of vice admiral, and in air forces with a separate rank structure, it is equivalent to air marshal. A lieutenant general commands an army corps, made up of typically three army divisions, and consisting of around 60 000 to 70 000 soldiers (U.S.). Peirce Island
Peirce Island is a historic island owned by the city of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and is connected to adjacent outlying Four Tree Island. It is connected to the mainland by the Peirce Island bridge. The islands are open to the public and have views of salt marsh, tidal pools, rocky cliffs, and meadows as well as the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, the South End, three bridges over the Piscataqua River, the "back channel", and a small island toward New Castle, New Hampshire. There is also an outdoor pool, walking paths, playgrounds, and boat launch area. There is a sewer treatment plant on the island.
