Eline Thorp
Eline Thorp Steffensen (born 6 September 1993) is a Norwegian singer and songwriter from Hamarøy, Nordland. She received national attention when she was titled this week's Urørt in 2011. The same year she played at festivals like by:Larm, Hove Festival, Slottsfjell Festival and the Bukta Festival. Career In 2013, she released her first single, "The Game," along with a corresponding music video. In 2014, her debut album, ''Mirror's Edge'', was released on the label Beyond Records. The album received dice throw (review), dice five from ''VGs reviewer Stein Østbø. In 28 January 2023, Thorp participated in the third semi-final of Melodi Grand Prix 2023 with the song "Not Meant To Be". She advanced to the final round on February 4, and placed sixth. The "dice throw" ( no, terningkast) is a method of review which is often used in Norway. It is characterized by the use of a white-on-red die graphic to represent the movie's rating in the review, and is similar to stars or letters used in other countries. The format was introduced by film director and then-film critic Arne Skouen, who, writing for ''Verdens Gang'' on 31 March 1952, stated the need of "having a film première characterized in a short, concise form". To do this, he used a standard die with six pips, where one marked the lowest possible rating of a film, and six marked the highest. In some cases, a die with zero pips has been used, meaning awful. Similarly, people sometimes allude to "seven pips", meaning extraordinarily good. Usage In time, the dice throw spread to other parts of the media. ''2023'' was the 61st edition of (MGP), the annual Norwegian music competition that serves as the country's preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest. It was organised by Norway's public broadcaster NRK, and consisted of three semi-finals and a final, held throughout January and February 2023. The winner of the competition, Alessandra with "Queen of Kings", went on to represent in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool, United Kingdom in May 2023. Format The contest consisted of three semi-finals at Screen Studios in Nydalen, and a final at Trondheim Spektrum. From 2020 to 2022, a number of artists were formerly pre-qualified for the final, but this was no longer the case in 2023.
