Eli Guttman
Israel "Eli" Guttman (or Gutman, he, אלי גוטמן; born 24 February 1958) is an Israeli former football player and manager who most recently managed Maccabi Haifa, before officially announcing his retirement from the football world, stating health issues as the main reason. Career Guttman was born in Israel, to a family of Ashkenazi Jewish descent. He started playing football as a teenager in the youth ranks of Hapoel Haifa but never managed to play for the senior team. He moved to play for Beitar Netanya in Liga Alef and later played in Liga Bet for Maccabi Neve Sha'anan and Maccabi Kiryat Bialik. After six years of playing in the lower divisions in Israeli football he retired from playing and the following season started to work as a manager. His first club as a manager was the club where he last played - Maccabi Kiryat Bialik. The next season, he moved to manage Beitar Haifa in Liga Alef. Hapoel ( he, הפועל, lit. ''the worker'') is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. History During the British Mandate of Palestine period Hapoel had a bitter rivalry with Maccabi and organized its own competitions, with the exception of football, the only sport in which all the organizations played each other. Liga Leumit ( he, ליגה לאומית, lit. ''National League'') is the second division of the Israeli Football League, and below its Premier League. Structure There are 16 clubs in the league. At the end of each season, the two lowest-placed teams are relegated to Liga Alef while the two highest-placed teams from Liga Alef are promoted in their place. The two highest-placed Liga Leumit teams are promoted to the Israeli Premier League while the bottom two teams from Israeli Premier League are relegated in their place. Israel State Cup
The Israel State Cup ( he, גביע המדינה, ''Gvia HaMedina''), is a knockout cup competition in Israeli football, run by the Israel Football Association (IFA). The State Cup was first held in 1928 as the People's Cup. Because it involves clubs of all standards playing against each other, there is the possibility for "minnows" from the lower divisions to become "giant-killers" by eliminating top clubs from the tournament, although lower division teams rarely reach the final. The current holders of the State Cup are the Israeli Premier League club Hapoel Haifa, who beat Beitar Jerusalem in the 2018 final on May 9, 2018. 1990–91 Liga Leumit
The 1990–91 Liga Leumit season began on October 1990 and ended on June 1991, with Maccabi Haifa winning the title. The regular season had each team play twice against each opponent. The table was then divided into two, with top six teams entering the championship play-off and bottom six in the relegation play-off, where each team played the other teams in the play-off twice. Two teams from Liga Artzit were promoted at the end of the previous season: Tzafririm Holon and Hapoel Tel Aviv. The two teams relegated were Shimshon Tel Aviv and Hapoel Ramat Gan. Shlomo Scharf ( he, שלמה שרף; born 1 January 1943) is a former Israeli football (soccer), football player and coach (sport), manager who now works as a regular commentator on Israeli Sport 5 TV channel. Scharf managed Maccabi Haifa to three championships, and was Israel national football team manager from 1992 to 1999. Managerial career Scharf managed the Israeli national team from 1992 to 1999 during which time he beat France 3-2 in an away game, and his contract was repeatedly extended due to his improvements. Further international victories were achieved against Poland and Bulgaria whilst qualifying for the European Championships and World Cup (France) respectively. His most notable victory is regarded to be his 5-0 win against Austria. Liga Artzit ( he, ליגה ארצית, lit. ''Country League'') is the defunct third division of Israeli Football League, beneath its highest division Premier League and the second division Liga Leumit. Before being cancelled in 2009, it was run by the Israel Football Association. It was replaced by Liga Alef. Structure There were 12 teams in Liga Artzit. Each team played 33 matches; the first 22 matches were played on a home and away basis, with the last 11 fixtures based on league positions after 22 games. The 1989–90 Liga Artzit season in Israel saw Tzafririm Holon and Hapoel Tel Aviv promoted to Liga Leumit. At the other end of the table, Hapoel Rishon LeZion and Hapoel Lod were automatically relegated to Liga Alef, whilst Maccabi Tamra went down after losing the promotion-relegation play-offs. Maccabi Yavne's Benny Tabak was the league's top scorer with 19 goals.
