Elfsborg
Idrottsföreningen Elfsborg, more commonly known as IF Elfsborg or simply Elfsborg (), is a professional football club based in Borås, Sweden, and is affiliated to the Västergötlands Fotbollförbund. They play in the Allsvenskan and have spent most of their history in the top tier of Swedish football. Their homeground is Borås Arena, where they have played since 17 April 2005. The club was founded in 1904 by a group of 19 youngsters which all were 14–15 years old. ''Borås Fotbollslag'' was formed in Ordenshuset at Landala (today Knalleland) on 26 June 1904. The main protagonist in the formation, Carl Larson, who in addition to football also practiced athletics and wrestling. Claimed the reason was that the main sports club in the city, Borås Athletic and Sports Society, would not exert football in their program. Borås Arena
The Borås Arena is a football stadium in Borås, Sweden. It is the home ground of IF Elfsborg and Norrby IF and was opened in 2005. Borås Arena has an artificial turf pitch, GreenFields MX by GreenFields, and has a capacity of 16,200. Both clubs presently using the stadium previously had Ryavallen as their home ground. Until recently it was the only stadium in Allsvenskan built in the last 40 years. The arena is located in Knalleland and is very close to the newly built athletics hall Ryahallen. The first game at Borås Arena was IF Elfsborg vs Örgryte IS on 17 April 2005 in the top Swedish league, Allsvenskan. The game ended in a 1–0 victory for Elfsborg, Daniel Mobaeck scoring the goal. Swedish football champions ( sv, Svenska mästare i fotboll) is a title held by the winners of the highest Swedish football league played each year, Allsvenskan. Malmö FF are the holders of the record of most titles with 22 Swedish championships. After winning the 2021 Allsvenskan, Malmö FF are also the reigning Swedish football champions. The title has been contested since 1896 in varying forms of competition. The first Swedish Champions, Örgryte IS, were declared in 1896 when the club won the cup tournament Svenska Mästerskapet. 2008 UEFA Intertoto Cup
The 2008 UEFA Intertoto Cup was the last UEFA Intertoto Cup football tournament, the 14th to be organised by UEFA and the third since the competition's format was given a major overhaul. Fifty teams were invited, with the eleven winners after the third round then advancing to the second qualifying round of the 2008–09 UEFA Cup. Allsvenskan (; en, the All-Swedish, also known as Fotbollsallsvenskan, en, the Football All-Swedish) is a Swedish professional league for men's association football clubs. It was founded in 1924 and is the top tier of the Swedish football league system, operating on a system of promotion and relegation with Superettan. Seasons run from late March or early April to the beginning of November, with the 16 clubs all meeting each other twice, resulting in a 30-match season, for a total of 240 matches league-wide. Allsvenskan is ranked 23rd in the UEFA coefficients of leagues based on performances in European competitions over the last five years. The 2022 Allsvenskan was the 98th season since its establishment in 1924 of Sweden's top-level football league, Allsvenskan. A total of 16 teams participated. Malmö FF were the defending champions after winning the title in the previous season. The 2022 Allsvenskan season began on 2 April and ended on 6 November 2022 (not including play-off matches). Ryavallen
Ryavallen is a multi-purpose stadium in Borås, Sweden, mainly used for soccer and track and field athletics. It was inaugurated on 17 August 1941 with a soccer game where IF Elfsborg defeated Team Sweden, 2–1. It was the home ground for IF Elfsborg until 2005, when the Borås Arena was Inaugurated. During the 1958 FIFA World Cup, it hosted the matches between USSR and Austria, and between England and Austria. 2007–08 UEFA Cup
The 2007–08 UEFA Cup was the 37th edition of the UEFA Cup, UEFA's second-tier club football tournament. The final was played at the City of Manchester Stadium, Manchester, England on 14 May 2008 between Rangers of Scotland and Zenit Saint Petersburg of Russia. Zenit won the match 2–0, with goals from Igor Denisov and Konstantin Zyryanov, to claim their first UEFA Cup title. The first qualifying games were played on 19 July 2007 and the main tournament commenced on 20 September 2007. A total of 123 football clubs took part in the tournament (including its qualifying rounds). The Sweden national football team ( sv, svenska fotbollslandslaget) represents Sweden in men's international football and it is controlled by the Swedish Football Association, the governing body of football in Sweden. Älvsborg Regiment
The Älvsborg Regiment ( sv, Älvsborgs regemente), designation I 15 and I 15/Fo 34, was a Swedish Army infantry regiment that traces its origins back 1624. It was disbanded in 1998. The regiment's soldiers were originally recruited from the provinces of Västergötland, and it was later garrisoned there in the town Borås. Heraldry and traditions Colours, standards and guidons The regiment has carried a number of colours over the years. On 24 June 1854, the then crown prince, later King Charles XV presented the last battalion colours to the regiment. They were so called Oscar I type, and were presented at a summit on Axevalla heath. In 1904 the regiment adopted the 1st battalion's colour as regimental colour (which has been hanging in ''Älvsborgsmässen'' ("Älvsborg Mess") at Gothenburg Garrison since 1998). Jimmy Thelin
Bo Jimmy Thelin (born 14 March 1978) is a Swedish football manager and former player. He is the manager of IF Elfsborg in Allsvenskan. He is the older brother of Tommy Thelin, forward and captain of Jönköpings Södra. Playing career He played until 2003 as a centre-back for IF Hagapojkarna (now renamed IF Haga), one of the local minor teams of the city of Jönköping, in the fourth and in the fifth level in the league system of Swedish football. Managerial career He began his coaching career taking over as FC Ljungarum coach in 2005. This newly founded team had its first effective season in 2006, dominating the Division 6 championship with 17 wins out of 18 games total.
