Elfed High School
Elfed High School () is an 11–16 mixed, English-medium community secondary school in Buckley, Flintshire, Wales. History Opened in 1954, the school was named after Hywel Elfed Lewis 1860-1953, the renowned bard and scholar who served as Archdruid of the National Eisteddfod of Wales from 1924 to 1928. In 1967 it became a Senior Comprehensive, serving a wide catchment area, including Buckley, Hawarden, Mynydd Isa, Saltney, Caergwrle and Hope. The school became fully comprehensive in 1973, serving the communities of Buckley, Mynydd Isa, Drury and surrounding areas. The main partner primary schools are Southdown, Westwood, Mountain Lane and Drury schools, but the school also attracts pupils from a number of others. Students from outside the normal catchment area who choose to attend the Elfed HS use public transport. The vast majority of students use bicycles or walk to school. Buckley, Flintshire
Buckley ( cy, Bwcle ) is a town and community in Flintshire, north-east Wales, from the county town of Mold and contiguous with the villages of Ewloe, Alltami and Mynydd Isa. It is on the A549 road, with the larger A55 road passing nearby. Buckley is the second-largest town in Flintshire in terms of population. At the 2011 Census, its community had a population of 15,665. When the contiguous Argoed community is included, Buckley has a population of 21,502. A prominent nearby landmark is the Hanson Cement kiln just south of the town. Etymology Buckley's name appears as ''Bocleghe'' in 1198 and ''Bokkeley'' in 1294. Ryan James Shawcross (born 4 October 1987) is an English former professional footballer who played as a centre-back. He is currently an assistant coach with MLS Next Pro club Inter Miami II. Shawcross began his career with Manchester United and made his debut for the club against Crewe Alexandra in the League Cup; he then spent time on loan at Belgian feeder club Royal Antwerp. Cherry Frampton (born 11 June 1987) is a former glamour model and Page 3 girl who posed under the name Cherry Dee. John Patrick Lyons (8 November 1956 – 11 November 1982) was a Welsh footballer who played as a forward in the Football League. Career Lyons was born in Buckley, Wales. He attended the Buckley County Primary School and Elfed High School. Whilst at the High School he represented Wales as an Under 15 basketball player. He began his football career with Wrexham as an apprentice and signed as a professional player in September 1975. He scored 23 goals in 86 appearances and helped the team to the Third Division title in the 1977–78 season. He joined Millwall in 1979, making 55 appearances and registering 20 league goals, many of which were from free-kicks just outside the penalty box, his speciality. He then signed for Cambridge United, where he appeared 21 times scoring 6 goals. Danny Collins (footballer)
Daniel Lewis Collins (born 6 August 1980) is a former professional footballer who played as a centre back. Collins started his career in the Welsh leagues with Mold Alexandra and Buckley Town before joining Chester City in 1996. His first two seasons at Chester saw him make 20 appearances; during the 2002–03 season he went on loan to non-league side Vauxhall Motors. Following his return to Chester, Collins became a regular in the side and produced some fine performances which attracted the attention of Sunderland who bought him for £140,000.
