Eleven Songs (album)
''Eleven Songs'' is a compilation album by American melodic hardcore band As Friends Rust. It was originally released on compact disc by Japanese record label Howling Bull Entertainment on October 5, 1999. British record label Golf Records reissued the release, also on compact disc, on October 22, 2001. At the time of its original release in 1999, ''Eleven Songs'' was considered somewhat of a discography, since it included all but a single song of what As Friends Rust had released; the Circle Jerks cover "Operation" was omitted. Though the release bares the title ''Eleven Songs'', it was in fact a licensed edition of As Friends Rust's eponymous extended play with six bonus songs. The licensing deals with Howling Bull Entertainment and Golf Records were set up by Doghouse Records, with which As Friends Rust had an exclusive recording contract. As Friends Rust
As Friends Rust is an American melodic hardcore band based in Gainesville, Florida. The original line-up, which included vocalist Damien Moyal, guitarist Henry Olmino, bass guitarist Jeronimo Gomez and drummer Matthew Crum, formed in Davie, Florida in September 1996. After recording a demo tape but failing to secure a record deal, the band parted ways in February 1997. Following his move to Gainesville, Florida, Moyal reformed As Friends Rust in June 1997 with a new line-up (made-up mostly of then-members of his other band Culture), ultimately stabilizing the band with drummer Timothy Kirkpatrick, guitarists Gordon Tarpley and Joseph Simmons and bass guitarist and backing vocalist Kaleb Stewart. The band released its debut EP '' The Fists of Time'' via Good Life Recordings in 1998, prior to which Tarpley was replaced by Peter Bartsocas. Regina Hexaphone
Regina Hexaphone is a Durham, North Carolina group established in 1997 by Sara Bell and Chris Clemmons. Its current members are Sara Bell (vocals, guitar, piano), Nathan Brown (electronic organ, accordion, guitar, vocals), Chris Clemmons (bass, vocals), Jerry Kee (drums), and Margaret White (violin, vocals). Regina Hexaphone was established as a duo in the summer of 1997 after Clemmons heard some of Bell's work. Their first published work was "Every Traveler's Song", recorded at Kee's Duck-Kee studio in September 1997 with Kee on drums and Brian Sliwa on guitar. The song appeared on the Third Place Coffeehouse's ''Local Honey'' compilation CD. Regina Hexaphone's first gig was at the Cave in Chapel Hill in late December 1997 with Zeke Hutchins playing drums and Greg Humphreys on slide guitar. White joined the band about six months later. Luka Bloom
Luka Bloom (born Kevin Barry Moore; 23 May 1955) is an Irish folk singer-songwriter. He is the younger brother of folk singer Christy Moore. Early life Kevin Barry Moore was born on 23 May 1955 in Newbridge, County Kildare, Ireland. His parents were Andy Moore and Nancy Power, who had already raised three daughters and two other sons. Moore attended a Patrician Brothers primary school and later studied at Newbridge College. In college he formed the group Aes Triplex with his brother Andy and a school friend. He later attended a college in Limerick, but he dropped out after a couple of years to pursue a music career. George Butterworth
George Sainton Kaye Butterworth, MC (12 July 18855 August 1916) was an English composer who was best known for the orchestral idyll ''The Banks of Green Willow'' and his song settings of A. E. Housman's poems from '' A Shropshire Lad''. Early years Butterworth was born in Paddington, London. Soon after his birth, his family moved to York so that his father Sir Alexander Kaye Butterworth could take up an appointment as general manager of the North Eastern Railway, which was based there. Their home was at Riseholme, a house on Driffield Terrace, which later became part of the Mount School. In 2016, the centenary year of his death on the Somme, biographer Anthony Murphy unveiled on behalf of the York Civic Trust a blue plaque to his memory at College House, Driffield Terrace, part of the Mount School. Jef Van Hoof
Jef van Hoof (8 May 1886 - 24 April 1959) was a Belgian composer and conductor with a Flemish ethnic background. Born in Antwerp, Van Hoof was a pupil of Paul Gilson and was heavily influenced by the works of Peter Benoit. He studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, of which he was the director from 1942 to 1944. In 1933 he founded the (Vlaams Nationaal Zangfeest) where he worked as a conductor for many years. He also conducted concerts associated with the Flemish Movement. He died in Antwerp in 1959 at the age of 72. He composed chamber music, symphonic works, art songs, works for solo piano, carillon, organ, as well as sacred music.
