Eleme, Rivers
Eleme is a local government area in Rivers State, Nigeria. It is part of the Port Harcourt metropolitan city. It covers an area of 138 km2 and at the 2006 Census had a population of 190,884. The Eleme people are Eleme's main indigenous ethnic group. The Eleme language, of the Cross-River branch of the larger Niger-Congo language family, is the main spoken language. Eleme People
The Eleme people are one of the various groups of indigenous peoples that inhabit the Niger Delta region of South-South Nigeria. Location The Eleme people live in ten major towns situated in Eleme Local Government Area, Rivers State, around 20 km east of Port Harcourt. They include: Akpajo, Aleto, Alesa, Alode, Agbonchia, Ogale, Ebubu, Ekporo, Eteo and Onne. The total territory occupied by the Eleme people expands across approximately 140 square kilometres.Eleme is bounded in the north by Obio Akpor and Oyigbo, in the South by Okrika and Ogu Bolo, in the east by Tai and the West by Okrika and Port Harcourt. Onne
Onne also known as Onne-Eleme, is a town in Eleme, Rivers, Eleme, Rivers State, Nigeria. The town is a host to one of the two prominent ports in Nigeria. It is bordered by the towns of Alode, Ebubu and Ngololo Creek, a tributary of Bonny River. Port and shipyards Onne is a relatively major port in the region and has several quays with facilities for cargo ships up to 60,000 gt. It is also the main base for the Offshore drilling, offshore activity in the region, and a large number of supply-vessels call at Onne every week. This section of the port is called Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone (OOGFZ) and contains several quays to cater to off shore supply vessels and a shipyard (WAS - West Atlantic Shipyard). Eleme Language
Eleme is a language spoken by Eleme people in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. Eleme language was originally divided into two mutual dialects of Nchia and Odido. Nchia spoken in six communities of Agbonchia, Akpajo, Alesa, Aleto, Alode and Ogale, while Odido dialect was spoken at Ebubu, Ekporo, Eteo and Onne, today, both dialects have submerged, with a few varying pronunciations.
