Elefterie Sinicliu
Elefterie Sinicliu (born 4 October 1895, Echimăuţi, Orhei - died in 20th century) was an agronomist and politician from Bessarabia, member of the Moldovan Parliament (1917–1918). Biography In 1917 he participated in the local congress held in Chișinău. On 27 March / 9 April 1918 he voted for the unification of Bessarabia with Romania. He was an officer in the Bessarabian army and in 1919 he organized the artillery of this province. Bibliography * Gheorghe E. ''Sfatul Țării'' ("Council of the Country"; ) was a council that united political, public, cultural, and professional organizations in the greater part of the territory of the Governorate of Bessarabia in the disintegrating Russian Empire, which was transformed into a Legislative body and proclaimed the Moldavian Democratic Republic as part of the Russian Federative Republic in December 1917, and then union with Romania in . Orhei County (Romania)
Orhei was a county (Romanian: '' județ'') in the Kingdom of Romania between 1925 and 1938, and again between 1941 and 1944, with the seat at Orhei. Geography The county was located in the northeastern part of the Greater Romania, in the eastern part of the historical region of Bessarabia, at the border with the Soviet Union. At present, its territory is part of the Republic of Moldova. It is bordered to the northwest by the counties of Soroca and Bălți, to the northeast and the east by the Soviet Union and to the south by Lăpușna County. Orhei County was the successor of the Orhei District of the Principality of Moldavia or the Russian Empire in the central part, bordering on the north with the Soroca District, in the east by the river Dniester, in the west by the Bălţi District, and in the south by Lăpuşna District. Bessarabia (; Gagauz: ''Besarabiya''; Romanian: ''Basarabia''; Ukrainian: ''Бессара́бія'') is a historical region in Eastern Europe, bounded by the Dniester river on the east and the Prut river on the west. About two thirds of Bessarabia lies within modern-day Moldova, with the Ukrainian Budjak region covering the southern coastal region and part of the Ukrainian Chernivtsi Oblast covering a small area in the north. Romanian Military Intervention In Bessarabia
The Romanian military intervention in Bessarabia took place between 19 January and 8 March ( Old Style .S.5 January – 23 February) 1918, as part of the broader Allied intervention in the Russian Civil War. It pitted the Kingdom of Romania, Russian Republic, Ukrainian People's Republic and anti-Bolshevik factions of the Moldavian Democratic Republic on one side, against the Bolshevik controlled Rumcherod and Odessa Soviet Republic, as well as pro-Bolshevik factions within the Moldavian DR. The intervention began when the Romanian army and its allies crossed into Bessarabia and launched an attack on Chișinău and Ungheni, capturing the latter. On 19 January, the Bolshevik ''Frontotdel'' took hold of Chișinău, only to lose it to a second Romanian offensive on 26 January.
