Electraphonic Recording
Electraphonic Recording is a recording studio and record label located in Memphis, Tennessee. History Electraphonic Recording was established in 2005 by producer and composer Scott Bomar following an agreement to work as composer on Craig Brewer's ''Hustle & Flow''. Initially functioning as a studio, Electraphonic became a label with the 2006 release of ''Night Full of Sirens: Anthology '93-'97'', a compilation of material from the band Impala. Bomar continued to grow the business in the months and years that followed with a focus on bolstering the vintage Memphis soul sound. In 2007, Electraphonic moved into a downtown Memphis studio space with vintage analog equipment including an MCI 416B recording console and a Scully 280 1" 8-Track Tape Machine plus ProTools and other modern software. Scott Bomar
Scott Bomar (born June 15, 1974) is a Memphis-based musician, Emmy Award-winning film composer, Grammy-nominated music producer, and recording engineer. Scott Bomar's songs are represented by Downtown Music Publishing. Early years A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Bomar was introduced to music at an early age, aided by his mother's record collection and regular exposure to Memphis' legendary musicians. Impala Bomar's music career began in the early 1990s. Impala, consisting of guitarist John Stivers, saxophonist Justin Thompson, drummer Jeff Goggans, and Bomar on bass, gained national prominence on the strength of their debut album, ''El Rancho Reverbo'', co-produced by Roland Janes. The Bo-Keys
The Bo-Keys are a soul jazz band from Memphis, Tennessee, formed as an homage to the city's rich musical tradition. History In 1998, Scott Bomar was asked to assemble a backing band for former Stax artist and songwriter Sir Mack Rice. His concept was to form an updated version of the quintessential Memphis sound embodied by players like Charles "Skip" Pitts and Ben Cauley, a formidable task he confronted by recruiting the very musicians who served as his inspiration. The Bo-Keys have performed live at various festivals, including The Ponderosa Stomp, London's Barbican Performing Arts Centre, and Lincoln Center's Midsummer Nights Swing Series. Anthony Cornelius Hamilton (born January 28, 1971) is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer who rose to fame with his platinum-selling second studio album '' Comin' from Where I'm From'' (2003), which featured the title track single " Comin' from Where I'm From" and the follow-up " Charlene". Nominated for 17 Grammy Awards, he is also known for the song "Freedom" from the soundtrack album of ''Django Unchained'' co-written and sung as a duo with indie soul singer Elayna Boynton. James Lee Lindsey Jr. (May 1, 1980 – January 13, 2010), known professionally as Jay Reatard, was an American musician from Memphis, Tennessee. He was signed to Matador Records. He released recordings as a solo artist and as a member of the Reatards and Lost Sounds. Biography Early life Lindsey was born in Lilbourn, Missouri, in 1980. He and his family moved to Memphis when he was 8 years old, since his father struggled to find employment in his hometown. His recording career began at age 15, when a homemade demo tape he sent to Goner Records caught the ear of former Oblivian and Goner Records' owner Eric Friedl. Lindsey heard Friedl and the Oblivians bandmates earlier that year when they returned home to Memphis as the opening act for Rocket from the Crypt. Lindsey became enamored of their sloppy, lo-fi music and set forth creating his own brand of heavily distorted garage rock.
