Electra (arts Organisation)
Electra is a London-based non-profit arts organisation that commissions new work by artists working across sound art, moving image, performance and visual art. The organisation particularly works with feminist concerns and overlooked histories. One of its earliest projects, Her Noise, has an archive, thHer Noise Archive that is housed by University of the Arts London, University of the Arts, London Archives and Special Collections at London College of Communication, and has an online resourchernoise.org Electra was founded by Lina Dzuverovic and Anne Hilde Neset in 2003 and the current director is Irene Revell (since 2011). Steve Beresford
Steve Beresford (born 6 March 1950) is a British musician who graduated from the University of York He has played a variety of instruments, including piano, electronics, trumpet, euphonium, bass guitar and a wide variety of toy instruments, such as the toy piano. He has also played a wide range of music. He is probably best known for free improvisation, but has also written music for film and television and has been involved with a number of pop music groups. Career Beresford played in Derek Bailey's Company events and in the groups Alterations with David Toop, Terry Day and Peter Cusack, and the ''Three Pullovers'' with Nigel Coombes and Roger Smith. Claire Hooper (born 5 September 1976) is an Australian stand-up comedian, television and radio presenter and writer. Hooper is co-hosting ''The Great Australian Bake Off'' alongside Mel Buttle. Will Holder (designer)
Will Holder (born 1969 in Hatfield, Hertfordshire) is an English typographer based in Brussels. Holder explores the organisation of language around artworks through printed matter, live readings and dialogues with other artists. He is the editor of ''F.R.DAVID'', a journal concerned with reading and writing in the arts. In May 2009, Holder co-curated ''TalkShow'' (with Richard Birkett) at the ICA, London. Carl Michael von Hausswolff (born 1956) is a composer, visual artist, and curator based in Stockholm, Sweden. His main tools are recording devices (camera, tape deck, radar, sonar) used in an ongoing investigation of electricity, frequency, architectural space, and paranormal electronic interference. Kim Althea Gordon (born April 28, 1953) is an American musician, singer and songwriter, best known as the bassist, guitarist, and vocalist of alternative rock band Sonic Youth. Born in Rochester, New York, she was raised in Los Angeles, California, where her father was a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. After graduating from Los Angeles's Otis College of Art and Design, she moved to New York City to begin an art career. There, she formed Sonic Youth with Thurston Moore in 1981. She and Moore married in 1984, and the band released a total of six albums on independent labels before the end of the 1980s. Goodiepal or Gæoudjiparl van den Dobbelsteen, whose given name is Parl Kristian Bjørn Vester, is a Danish/Faroese experimental electronic musician, performance artist, composer and lecturer, as well as a self-described horologist. His work engages with the past, present, and future of computer music, compositional practices and resonance computing, and his idea of Radical Computer Music. He is the founding editor of UbuWeb and since 2020 is the ongoing artist-in-residence at the Center for Programs in Contemporary Writing (CPCW) at the University of Pennsylvania, where he teaches. Maria Chavez
Maria Chavez is an improviser, curator and sound artist from Lima, Peru. Her sound installations, visual objects and live turntable performances focus on the values of the accident and its unique, complicated possibilities with sound emitting machinery like the turntable. Influenced by improvisation in contemporary art, her work expands outside of the sound world straddling different disciplines of interest.
