Division Of Macquarie
The Division of Macquarie is an Australian electoral division in the state of New South Wales. The division was created in 1900 and was one of the original 65 divisions contested at the first federal election. It is named for Lachlan Macquarie, who was Governor of New South Wales between 1810 and 1821. The division is located to the west of Sydney, and today it covers a large part of the Blue Mountains, as well as the Hawkesbury region on Sydney's western fringe. The current Member for Macquarie, since the 2016 federal election, is Susan Templeman, a member of the Australian Labor Party. In 2019, Macquarie was the most marginal seat in the country, held by a 0.19% margin on the 2PP. However, in 2022 the Labor margin expanded to a comfortable 7.6%. Reg Gillard
Reginald Gillard (13 March 1920 – 16 August 2001) was an Australian politician. Born in Lithgow, New South Wales, he was a managing partner before his military service (1941–46). Long prominent in local politics, he served as mayor of Lithgow City Council from 1969 to 1972, and again from 1973 to 1976. In 1975, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Liberal member for Macquarie. He held the seat until his defeat at the 1980 election by Labor's Ross Free. Gillard was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 1998 Australia Day Honours for "service to local government, the community and the Australian parliament". In September 2000 he received the Australian Sports Medal for his "service to administration of lawn bowls". Gillard died in 2001. Louise Elizabeth Markus (born 6 September 1958) is a former Australian politician who served as a member of the Australian House of Representatives, initially elected to represent the seat of Division of Greenway, Greenway in western Sydney for the Liberal Party of Australia at the 2004 Australian federal election, 2004 federal election. Kerry Bartlett
Kerry Joseph Bartlett (born 15 April 1949) is an Australian politician. He was a Liberal member of the Australian House of Representatives between March 1996 and November 2007, representing the Division of Macquarie, New South Wales. He was born in Sydney, New South Wales, and was educated at the University of Sydney and Macquarie University, and has a master's degree in economics from the latter. Before entering politics, he was a school economics and history teacher at Wycliffe Christian School, a university economics tutor and a financial planner. Bartlett did not attain a ministry but was Chief Government Whip from 2004 until 2007. His seat was radically altered ahead of the 2007 election. He'd previously held the seat with a fairly safe majority of eight percent, but a redistribution wiped out Bartlett's majority and turned Macquarie into a marginal Labor seat. Alasdair Paine Webster (born 12 February 1934) is a retired Australian politician. Early life Webster was born in East Maitland, New South Wales. He underwent military service in 1953, attended the University of New England, and became a teacher. From 1973 to 1984, Webster was chief superintendent of Daruk Boys' Home in Windsor, New South Wales. Politics Federal politics In 1984, Webster was elected to the Australian House of Representatives for the seat of Macquarie as a member of the Liberal Party. He held the seat until his defeat in 1993 by Maggie Deahm, representing the Australian Labor Party, who won by a margin of 105 votes. Webster challenged the result in the Court of Disputed Returns.
