Division Of Herbert
The Division of Herbert is an Australian electoral division in the state of Queensland. Eligible voters within the Division elect a single representative, known as the member for Herbert, to the Australian House of Representatives. Geography Since 1984, federal electoral division boundaries in Australia have been determined at redistributions by a redistribution committee appointed by the Australian Electoral Commission. Redistributions occur for the boundaries of divisions in a particular state, and they occur every seven years, or sooner if a state's representation entitlement changes or when divisions of a state are malapportioned. History The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions at the first federal election. It is located in northern Queensland, and is named after Sir Robert Herbert, the first Premier of Queensland (1859–1866). It has always been based around the city of Townsville. Gordon Dean (Australian Politician)
Arthur Gordon Dean (13 June 1942 – 27 July 2023) was an Australian politician, solicitor and magistrate. He was a Liberal Party of Australia member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1977 to 1983, representing the electorate of Division of Herbert, Herbert. Early life Dean was born in Mackay, Queensland, Mackay, Queensland, raised in the small town of Maroon, Queensland, Maroon and educated in Mount Isa and Townsville. In 1960, he began as an articled clerk for his grandfather's Townsville law firm of Dean Gillman & Thompson, was admitted as a solicitor in 1965, and became a partner of the firm the same year, remaining with them until his election to parliament. The 2004 Australian federal election was held in Australia on 9 October 2004. All 150 seats in the House of Representatives and 40 seats in the 76-member Senate were up for election. The incumbent Liberal Party of Australia led by Prime Minister of Australia John Howard and coalition partner the National Party of Australia led by John Anderson defeated the opposition Australian Labor Party led by Mark Latham. The 2007 Australian federal election was held in Australia on 24 November 2007. All 150 seats in the House of Representatives and 40 of the seats in the 76-member Senate were up for election. The election featured a 39-day campaign, with 13.6 million Australians enrolled to vote. The centre-left Australian Labor Party opposition, led by Kevin Rudd and deputy leader Julia Gillard, defeated the incumbent centre-right Coalition government, led by Liberal Party leader and Prime Minister, John Howard, and Nationals leader and Deputy Prime Minister, Mark Vaile, by a landslide. Phillip Thompson
Phillip Bruce Thompson, (born 7 May 1988) is an Australian politician. His party is the Liberal National Party of Queensland and he sits with the Liberal Party in federal parliament. He is a member of the House of Representatives, representing the Division of Herbert. He was first elected in the 2019 Australian federal election. Prior to entering politics, Thompson was Queensland Young Australian of the Year. Early life and education Thompson was born in Armidale, New South Wales. In 2006, at age seventeen, Thompson enlisted in the Australian Army. He underwent training at Kapooka and Singleton before being posted to the 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, in Townsville. In 2007 Thompson was deployed to East Timor. In May 2009, Thompson was deployed to Afghanistan. Six months into this deployment, while conducting a dismounted patrol, an IED exploded a metre in front of him. Catherine Elizabeth O'Toole (born 30 August 1956) is a former Australian politician. She served as the Labor member for Herbert from 2016 until 2019. Early life and career O'Toole was born and raised in Townsville, Queensland. O'Toole left school in year 11, when she was 16 years old, to become an apprentice hairdresser. When she was 18 she and her mother purchased and ran the business. Ewen Thomas Jones (born 7 March 1960) is a former Australian politician representing the division of Herbert for the Liberal National Party from the 2010 federal election until the 2016 federal election. Peter Lindsay
Peter John Lindsay (born 4 May 1944) is an Australian former politician who served as a Liberal Party of Australia member of the Australian House of Representatives from March 1996 to July 2010, representing the Division of Herbert, Queensland. In January 2007 he was appointed to the position of Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Defence in the Howard government. He was born in Brisbane, Queensland, and was a television station production manager and General Manager of Townsville Television from 1972 to 1996 before entering politics.
