Division Of Corangamite
The Division of Corangamite is an Australian electoral division in the state of Victoria. The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election. It is named for Lake Corangamite, although the lake no longer falls within the division's boundaries. The division was redrawn in 2021, becoming a much smaller seat due to increased population growth. It now covers (down from ) along the Victorian coast, including the growing surf coast area, the southern suburbs of Geelong as well as rural areas to the west. Starting at in the east, the electorate takes in the entire Bellarine Peninsula, then runs down the surf coast as far as . The electorate then extends north into the Golden Plains Shire, where it includes the towns of , and . 1934 Australian Federal Election
The 1934 Australian federal election was held in Australia on 15 September 1934. All 74 seats in the House of Representatives, and 18 of the 36 seats in the Senate were up for election. The incumbent United Australia Party led by Prime Minister of Australia Joseph Lyons formed a minority government, with 33 out of 74 seats in the House. The opposition Australian Labor Party (ALP) led by James Scullin saw its share of the primary vote fall to an even lower number than in the 1931 election, due to the Lang Labor split. However, it was able to pick up an extra four seats on preferences and therefore improve on its position. Almost two months after the election, the UAP entered into a coalition with the Country Party, led by Earle Page. Libby Coker
Elizabeth Ann Coker (born 11 June 1962) is an Australian politician. She is a member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and has been a member of the House of Representatives since the 2019 federal election, representing the Victorian seat of Corangamite. She previously served as the mayor of the Surf Coast Shire. Coker won the 2022 Australian federal election with a 6.5% swing to the Australian Labor Party (ALP). Early life Coker was born in Melbourne on 11 June 1962. Her mother Frances Mann worked as a nurse and her father Jack Coker was a senior public servant with the Australian Broadcasting Control Board. She grew up in the suburb of Beaumaris, later moving with her family to Port Macquarie, New South Wales where Coker's activism began. The 2013 Australian federal election to elect the members of the 44th Parliament of Australia took place on 7 September 2013. The centre-right Liberal/National Coalition opposition led by Opposition leader Tony Abbott of the Liberal Party of Australia and Coalition partner the National Party of Australia, led by Warren Truss, defeated the incumbent centre-left Labor Party government of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in a landslide.
