Division Of Brisbane
The Division of Brisbane is an Australian electoral division in the state of Queensland. History The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election. It is named after the city of Brisbane. It was in Labor hands for all but five years from 1931 to 2010, and for most of that time was a marginal Labor seat. However, a redistribution ahead of the 2010 election pushed the seat into more conservative-leaning territory east of Breakfast Creek. This helped Liberal Party challenger Teresa Gambaro take the seat from Labor incumbent Arch Bevis, marking the first time in over a century that Labor had been in government without holding Brisbane. She was re-elected in 2013 with an increased majority. Gambaro did not re-contest the seat at the 2016 election. Edward Lynam O'Brien (born 7 May 1974) is an Australian politician. He is a member of the Liberal National Party of Queensland (LNP) and has represented the seat of Fairfax in the House of Representatives since the 2016 federal election. He sits with the Liberal Party in federal parliament. Prior to entering politics he was a businessman with considerable experience across Asia and a leader of various community organisations, including chairman of the Australian Republic Movement (2005–2007). The 2007 Australian federal election was held in Australia on 24 November 2007. All 150 seats in the House of Representatives and 40 of the seats in the 76-member Senate were up for election. The election featured a 39-day campaign, with 13.6 million Australians enrolled to vote. The centre-left Australian Labor Party opposition, led by Kevin Rudd and deputy leader Julia Gillard, defeated the incumbent centre-right Coalition government, led by Liberal Party leader and Prime Minister, John Howard, and Nationals leader and Deputy Prime Minister, Mark Vaile, by a landslide. Trevor Mark Evans (born 28 August 1981) is a former Australian politician who had been a member of the House of Representatives from 2016 to 2022, representing the Division of Brisbane. He is a member of the Liberal National Party of Queensland, and sat with the Liberal Party in federal parliament. Teresa Gambaro (; born 29 November 1958) is a former Australian politician. She served as a member of the House of Representatives from 1996 to 2007 and 2010 to 2016, representing the Liberal Party. She was a parliamentary secretary in the Howard government from 2004 to 2007. Early life Gambaro was born in Brisbane, Queensland. The daughter of an Italian immigrant, she was educated at Holy Spirit School in New Farm, the All Hallows' School in Brisbane, and later at the Queensland University of Technology.
