Electoral District Of Wickham (Queensland)
Wickham was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1873 to 1878. Wickham was a single-member constituency which arose from the break-up of the three-member constituency of Town of Brisbane. It lasted for only one Parliament, as it was merged in 1878 with Brisbane City to create the two-member constituency of North Brisbane. Legislative Assembly Of Queensland
The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). There is approximately the same population in each electorate; however, that has not always been the case (in particular, a malapportionment system - not, strictly speaking, a gerrymander - dubbed the ''Bjelkemander'' was in effect during the 1970s and 1980s). Electoral District Of Brisbane City
Brisbane City was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1873 to 1878. Based in inner Brisbane, north of the Brisbane River, it was first created as a single member constituency for the 1873 colonial election, formed as a result of the abolition of the three member constituency Town of Brisbane. It was abolished at the 1878 colonial election and replaced by the new dual member constituency of North Brisbane. North Brisbane was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian colony of Queensland from 1878 to 1888. North Brisbane was a two-member constituency, created in 1878 by a merger of Brisbane City with one member and Wickham also with one member. It was replaced/renamed by Brisbane North in 1888. George Edmondstone
George Edmondstone (1809–1883) was politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly and an alderman and mayor in the Brisbane Municipal Council.Brisbane City Council Archives The surname is spelled 'Edmonstone' in the Brisbane City Council Archives, spelled 'Edmundston' on his father's marriage banns, spelled 'Edmondston' on his baptismal certificate and Edmondstone on his father's Testament. Personal life George Edmondstone was born on 4 May 1809 in Edinburgh, Scotland, the son of William Edmondstone, a naval commissary, and Alexandrina (Alixa) Farquharson daughter of a watchmaker. George's father died when he was 12 and he migrated to New South Wales in 1832. Later he went to Hobart Town and after some hard times began business in Sydney. Albert John Hockings
Albert John Hockings (21 February 1826 – 11 November 1890) was a politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly and an alderman and mayor of the Brisbane Town Council. Personal life Albert John Hockings was the son of Thomas Hockings (a carpenter) and Jane Thorton. He was baptised at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London, England on 16 April 1826. In 1841 his parents Thomas and Jane Hockings immigrated to Australia on ''William Jardine'' accompanied by their sons Albert and Henry. Albert John Hockings married Elizabeth Bailey (daughter of Samuel William Bailey and Elizabeth Scott) in Brisbane on 17 August 1851.
