United Counties of Murray and St Vincent was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales from 1856 to 1859. It was named after Murray and St Vincent counties, including Canberra and Braidwood, although Braidwood and Queanbeyan were exclaves of the electoral district and formed parts of Southern Boroughs. Coastal St Vincent county (Batemans Bay and the Jervis Bay area) were included in the electoral district of St Vincent. Its only member was William Forster. Prior to 1927 some districts returned multiple members, including 1920-1927 when all districts returned 3,4 or 5 members. Batemans Bay, New South Wales
Bateman's is a 17th-century house located in Burwash, East Sussex, England. It was the home of Rudyard Kipling from 1902 until his death in 1936. The house was built in 1634. Kipling's widow Caroline Starr Balestier Kipling, Caroline bequeathed the house to the National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty, National Trust on her death in 1939. The house is a Listed building, Grade I listed building. History Bateman's is a Jacobean architecture, Jacobean Wealden mansion constructed in 1634. There is debate as to the original builder. Historic England follows the tradition favoured by Kipling of ascribing the construction to a Sussex ironmaster, John Britten. The historian Adam Nicolson reports the tradition in the National Trust's guidebook, but notes that Britten was a dealer in iron, rather than a manufacturer. William Forster (Australian Politician)
William Forster (16 October 1818 – 30 October 1882) was a pastoral squatter, colonial British politician, Premier of New South Wales from 27 October 1859 to 9 March 1860, and poet. Early life Forster was born in Madras, India, the son of Thomas Forster, army surgeon, and his wife Eliza Blaxland, daughter of Gregory Blaxland. His parents married in Sydney and travelled to India in 1817, Wales in 1822, Ireland in 1825 and settled down in 1829 in Brush Farm, Eastwood, built by Blaxland in about 1820, and the birthplace of the Australian wine industry. He continued his education in Australia at W. T. Cape's school and The King's School. The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the lower of the two houses of the Parliament of New South Wales, an Australian state. The upper house is the New South Wales Legislative Council.
