Electoral District Of Redcliffe
Redcliffe is a Legislative Assembly of Queensland electoral division in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The division encompasses suburbs to the north and northeast of Brisbane, including Redcliffe, Woody Point, Scarborough, Clontarf and Margate, as well as parts of Kippa-Ring. The electorate's boundary stretches to take in Moreton Island. The seat was created in 1960 and was first held by Liberal (later National) member Jim Houghton. The seat was contested between the Liberal and National Parties until Houghton's mid-term retirement in 1979, followed by a by-election won by Liberal Terry White. White became the Liberal Party leader in August 1983, causing a split in the National-dominated coalition government. In 1989, he lost the seat to Labor Party member Ray Hollis, who at one point was Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. Yvette D'Ath
Yvette Maree D'Ath (born 26 July 1970) is an Australian politician. She is a Labor member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland representing the seat of Redcliffe. D'Ath is currently the Minister for Health and Ambulance Services and Leader of the House. She was previously a Labor member of the Australian House of Representatives representing the outer Brisbane seat of Petrie from 2007 to 2013. Education and early career D'Ath graduated from the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Laws, followed by a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Australian National University. After working as a waitress, she was appointed an associate to the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission, serving between 1992 and 1994. The National Party of Australia – Queensland (NPA-Q), commonly known as Queensland Nationals, or the National Party of Queensland, was the Queensland-state branch of the National Party of Australia (NPA) until 2008. 2014 Redcliffe State By-election
A by-election for the Queensland Legislative Assembly seat of Redcliffe took place on 22 February 2014. Yvette D'Ath won the seat for Labor. Background The Liberal Nationals had won Redcliffe from Labor at the 2012 election with 60 percent of the two-party vote from a 15.7-point two-party swing compared to the statewide two-party swing of 13.7 points. On 25 March 2013, sitting MP Scott Driscoll was suspended from the Liberal Nationals due to allegations of financial improprieties. He resigned from the party the following month and subsequently sat as an independent. Driscoll was the subject of complaints of official misconduct referred to the Crime and Misconduct Commission in November 2012, followed by complaints of fraud to the Queensland Police. A crossbencher is an independent or minor party member of some legislatures, such as the British House of Lords and the Parliament of Australia. They take their name from the crossbenches, between and perpendicular to the government and opposition benches, where crossbenchers sit in the chamber. Campbell Kevin Thomas Newman (born 12 August 1963) is a former Australian politician who served as the 38th Premier of Queensland from 26 March 2012 to 14 February 2015. 2012 Queensland State Election
The 2012 Queensland state election was held on 24 March 2012 to elect all 89 members of the Legislative Assembly, a unicameral parliament. The Labor Party (ALP), led by Premier Anna Bligh, was defeated by the opposition Liberal National Party (LNP), led by Campbell Newman. It is only the sixth time that Queenslanders have ousted a sitting government since 1915. The ALP was attempting to win a ninth consecutive election victory, having won every general election since 1989, despite being out of office between 1996 and 1998. The United Retail Federation was an industrial organisation of employers and one of Australia's oldest. It traces its origins to Grocers Associations in 1887. As one of the nation's oldest industry bodies it had exercised an influence on Australian Governments and public policy since federation. History The origins of United Retail Federation can be traced back to a meeting held 29 June 1887 at which it was proposed to establish a Grocers Association. By August of the same year the Brisbane Grocers Association had established offices in the Hunter's Treasury Buildings in George Street, Brisbane. Scott Nicolaus Driscoll (born 16 April 1975) is a former Australian politician, national peak industry association president, company director and a businessman. 2006 Queensland State Election
An election was held in the Australian state of Queensland on 9 September 2006 to elect the 89 members of the state's Legislative Assembly, after being announced by Premier Peter Beattie on 15 August 2006. The election saw the incumbent Labor government led by Premier Peter Beattie defeat the National-Liberal Coalition led by Lawrence Springborg and Bruce Flegg respectively, and gain a fourth consecutive term in office. Beattie thus became the first Labor Premier of Queensland to win four consecutive elections since William Forgan Smith did so in the 1930s. Elisabeth Cornelia Maria "Lillian" van Litsenburg (born 22 April 1957) was a Labor Party politician in the Queensland Parliament representing the Electoral district of Redcliffe. She was elected in September 2006 at the state election after she unsuccessfully contested the 2005 by-election in which Terry Rogers was elected and held the seat for only a number of months after the resignation of the former Labor member and Speaker of the Queensland Parliament, Ray Hollis. She was born in the Netherlands in 1957. Lillian is a local primary school teacher.
