Electoral District Of North Murchison
North Murchison (or Murchison North) was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia from 1897 to 1904. The district was located in the Western Australian outback. It existed for just two terms of parliament, but had three members and staged two by-elections in that time. In 1898, its major settlement was the town of Nannine, and it included the Peak Hill goldfield and some pastoral leases such as Moorarie Station. Its first member was Henry Kenny, who died two years into his term in May 1899. The subsequent by-election saw Frederick Moorhead elected to fill the vacancy. Moorhead retained the seat at the 1901 state election but afterward resigned his seat after being appointed minister, as was the convention at the time. The Murchison is an interim Australian bioregion located within the Mid West of Western Australia. The bioregion is loosely related to the catchment area of the Murchison River and has an area of . Traditionally the region is known as ''The Murchison''. Geography The landscape is characterised by low hills and mesas, separated by colluvium flats and alluvial plains. 1901 Western Australian State Election
Elections were held in the state of Western Australia on 24 April 1901 to elect 50 members to the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. It was the first election to take place since responsible government without the towering presence of Premier Sir John Forrest, who had left state politics two months earlier to enter the first Federal parliament representing the Division of Swan, and the first state parliamentary election to follow the enactment of women's suffrage in 1899. John Barkell Holman (26 February 1872 – 23 February 1925) was an Australian politician who served in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 1901 to 1921 and 1923 to 1925. Early life Holman was born on 26 February 1872 at Clunes in colonial Victoria, the son of Cornish parents. His father, Edward Holman, was a miner born in 1841 at Gwinear, Cornwall. His mother, Mary Anne ('' née'' Barkell), was born in 1837 at St Austell, Cornwall. He was educated at Bendigo, then worked as a miner, first at Bendigo, where he became a member of the Bendigo Miners' Association in 1886; and later at Broken Hill, New South Wales, where he was involved in the strike of 1892. Frederick Moorhead
Frederick William Moorhead KC (1863 – 27 November 1902) was an Australian barrister, politician, and judge. He was born in Ireland and emigrated to Western Australia in 1889. Moorhead was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1899 to 1901, and briefly served as the state's attorney-general in the government of Alf Morgans. He was appointed to the Supreme Court of Western Australia in April 1902, but died after only seven months in office. Henry Edward Kenny (1 March 1853 – 25 August 1899) was an Australian newspaper proprietor and politician who was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1897 to 1899, representing the seat of North Murchison. Kenny was born in North Fremantle, Western Australia, to Bridget (née Reynolds) and John Kenny. He had moved to Geraldton by 1879, working initially as a storekeeper and later as a draper.
