Newcastle was an electoral district of the House of Assembly in the Australian state of South Australia from 1884 to 1902 and again from 1915 to 1956. The Newcastle electorate was based in the southern Flinders Ranges. Hookina, South Australia
Hookina is a former town in the Flinders Ranges in South Australia. It is now included as part of the bounded locality of Barndioota. It was surveyed in 1862 on the route for transporting ore from mines at Blinman to the coast. By the time it was surveyed, there was already a 12-room inn and a blacksmith shop. Up to 130 bullock teamsters could camp in the area as it provided a secure water supply. A Catholic church was built at Hookina in 1885 and was demolished in 1966. The inn closed in 1896 following a drought that led to sand piling up against the building. Murray Town, South Australia
Murray Town is a locality in the Mid North of South Australia east of the lower Flinders Ranges. It was settled in 1883 and served as a rest stop for bullock and horse teams carting grain towards Port Germein from further north and east. The town was named for Alexander Murray, who introduced the Murray Merino sheep breed. The annual spring Murray Town Auction no longer takes place. Ending in 2016, due to difficulties in getting volunteers. The hotel which is listed on maps has not been open for many many years. Melrose, South Australia
Melrose is the oldest town in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia. The town was once named "Mount Remarkable". At the 2016 Australian census, Melrose had a population of 347. The town is known for its proximity to Mount Remarkable and the surrounding National Park, its caravan park and historical sites including Jacka's brewery and Melrose Courthouse. History Journalist Rodney Cockburn, in his popular book ''What's in a Name'' asserts that consensus has not yet been reached about the origins of Melrose's name. Booleroo Centre is a town in the southern Flinders Ranges region of South Australia. The town is located in the Mount Remarkable District Council local government area, north of the state capital, Adelaide. At the 2006 census, Booleroo Centre had a population of 516. Oodnadatta, South Australia
Oodnadatta is a small, remote outback town and locality in the Australian state of South Australia, located north-north-west of the state capital of Adelaide by road or direct, at an altitude of . The unsealed Oodnadatta Track, an outback road popular with tourists, runs through the town. In the , there were 74 dwellings and the population was 318.
