Narrogin, Western Australia
Narrogin is a large town in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, southeast of Perth on the Great Southern Highway between Pingelly and Wagin. In the age of steam engines, Narrogin was one of the largest railway operation hubs in the southern part of Western Australia. History Narrogin is an Aboriginal name, having been first recorded as "Narroging" for a pool in this area in 1869. The meaning of the name is uncertain, various sources recording it as "bat camp", "plenty of everything" or derived from "gnargagin" which means "place of water". The first Europeans into the Narrogin area were Alfred Hillman and his party, who surveyed the track between Perth and Albany in 1835. They passed west of the present site of Narrogin. In time they were followed by the occasional shepherd who drove his sheep into the area seeking good pastures. The Western Australian Legislative Assembly is elected from 59 single-member electoral districts. These districts are often referred to as ''electorates'' or ''seats''. The Western Australian Legislative Assembly, or lower house, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Western Australia, an Australian state. The National Party of Australia (WA) Inc, branded The Nationals WA, is a political party in Western Australia. It is affiliated with the National Party of Australia but maintains a separate structure and identity. Since the 2021 state election, the Nationals WA is the senior party in an opposition alliance with the WA Liberal Party in the WA Parliament. Prior to the election, the National Party was sitting in the crossbench and the Liberal Party was the sole opposition party. Victor Doney
Victor Doney (25 December 1881 – 12 October 1961) was an Australian politician who was a Country Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1928 to 1956. He served as a minister in the government of Sir Ross McLarty. Doney was born in Lerryn, Cornwall, England, to Rebecca (née Yeo) and Frank Doney. He came to Western Australia in 1912, and settled on a farm at Mullewa. Doney was elected to the Mullewa Road Board in 1914, and served as chairman for a period, but the following year enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force. He served in France with the 28th Battalion, and in July 1916 was wounded in action. Doney returned to Australia after being discharged in June 1919, and worked as a property inspector for the Agricultural Bank of Western Australia in Mullewa and Narrogin. William Alan Manning (13 April 1903 – 1 October 1986) was an Australian businessman and politician who was a Country Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1956 to 1974, representing the seat of Narrogin. Manning was born in Perth to Emily Elizabeth (née Lightfoot) and Albert Wheaton Manning. After leaving school, he trained as an accountant. He subsequently began working for the family business (a drapery in Narrogin), which he eventually took over. Manning was elected to the Narrogin Municipal Council in 1932, and served until 1941. Cambell Nalder
Cambell Crawford Nalder (20 December 1937 – 14 March 1987) was an Australian politician who served as a National Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1986 to 1987, representing the seat of Narrogin. The son of Crawford Nalder, who later served as the state's Deputy Premier, Nalder was born in Wagin, a small town in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. Like his father, he went on to board at Wesley College, Perth, graduating in 1954. Nalder was elected to parliament at the 1986 state election, but died of cancer in March 1987, aged 49, having served just over a year. His death necessitated a by-election, which was won by National Party candidate Bob Wiese.
