Electoral District Of Eureka
The Electoral district of Eureka is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly in Australia. It was created in the redistribution of electoral boundaries in 2021, and came into effect at the 2022 Victorian state election. It largely covers the area of the abolished district of Buninyong, covering the east and southeast suburbs of Ballarat, including the suburbs of Eureka, Brown Hill, Ballarat East, Golden Point, Canadian, Mount Pleasant, Mount Clear, Mount Helen and Buninyong. It also covers large parts of the Golden Plains Shire and Moorabool Shire areas, including the towns of Ballan, Bacchus Marsh, Meredith, Lethbridge, Teesdale and Inverleigh. The abolished seat of Buninyong was held by Labor MP Michaela Settle, who recontested Eureka and retained the seat at the 2022 election. Michaela Settle
Michaela Settle (born 1964) is an Australian politician. She has been a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly since November 2018, representing the seats of Buninyong and Eureka. Early life Settle was born in 1964 and grew up in regional Victoria: in Castlemaine and on her parents' farm near Ararat. After leaving school, she worked in the public relations sector before taking over the running of the family farm. She attended TAFE and Federation University, where she studied Professional Writing and Editing, before becoming marketing manager for Ballarat Community Health. Political career In 2017, Settle was pre-selected to replace the retiring member for Buninyong, Geoff Howard. At the 2018 Victorian state election, which saw a substantial swing to Labor across the state, she was elected with an increased margin, gaining 49.1% of first-preference votes. Golden Plains Shire
The Golden Plains Shire is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, located in the western part of the state. It covers an area of and in June 2018, had a population of 23,120. It includes the towns of Bannockburn, Dereel, Gheringhap, Lethbridge, Linton, Berringa, Teesdale, Rokewood and Meredith. The Shire was formed on 6 May 1994 by the amalgamation of the Shire of Bannockburn (the part remaining after part of it was amalgamated with several other councils to form the new City of Greater Geelong in May 1993), Shire of Leigh, part of the Shire of Grenville and part of the Shire of Buninyong. The City of Ballarat is a local government area in the west of the state of Victoria, Australia. It covers an area of and, in June 2018, had a population of 107,325. Estimated resident population, 30 June 2018. Electoral districts of Victoria are the electoral districts, commonly referred to as "seats" or "electorates", into which the Australian State of Victoria is divided for the purpose of electing members of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, one of the two houses of the Parliament of the State. Inverleigh, Victoria
Inverleigh is a town in Victoria, Australia located west from the City of Geelong and from the state capital, Melbourne. The town is divided between Golden Plains Shire and Surf Coast Shire. In the 2021 census, the central area of Inverleigh had a population of 1,746. Inverleigh is known to be a popular stopover destination on the way to Lorne. Meredith, Victoria
Meredith is a town in Victoria, Australia, located on the Midland Highway between Ballarat and Geelong, in the local government area of the City of Greater Geelong. At the , Meredith had a population of 788. History The town was surveyed in 1851–52. The naming of the town thought to be in honor of Captain Charles Meredith. Meredith Post Office opened on 1 November 1854 and the railway came to the town with the opening of the Geelong-Ballarat line in 1862, with the local railway station opened soon after.
