Electoral District Of Croydon (South Australia)
Croydon is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. Named after the suburb of Croydon, it is a suburban electorate in Adelaide's inner north-west. In addition to Croydon, it includes Angle Park, Athol Park, Bowden, Brompton, Croydon Park, Devon Park, Dudley Park, Ferryden Park, Kilkenny, Mansfield Park, Regency Park, Renown Park, Ridleyton, West Croydon, Woodville Gardens; and parts of Allenby Gardens, Welland, and West Hindmarsh. Croydon was created in the 1998 electoral distribution as a safe Labor seat, replacing the abolished Spence. It was first contested at the 2002 state election, where it was won by future Attorney-General and Speaker Michael Atkinson, the previous member for Spence since 1989. Peter Malinauskas
Peter Bryden Malinauskas ( ; born 14 August 1980) is an Australian politician, serving as the 47th and current premier of South Australia since March 2022. He has been the leader of the South Australian Branch of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and a member of the House Assembly (MHA) since 2018. He was the Leader of the Opposition until he led his party into government in the 2022 state election and previously served as a minister in the Weatherill cabinet. Malinauskas has been a Labor member of the South Australian House of Assembly since 2018, representing the electorate of Croydon. Devon Park is an inner northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the cities of Port Adelaide Enfield and Charles Sturt beside the Gawler railway line near, but not meeting, the intersection of Torrens Road and Churchill Road. Welland, South Australia
Welland is an inner suburb of Adelaide in the City of Charles Sturt local government area. It is around 5 km west northwest of the city centre. It was named for Welland, Worcestershire in 1907. History Welland Post Office opened on 3 October 1921. For much of the twentieth century, Welland and surrounding suburbs were known for the brickmaking industry located near the Torrens River, memorialised today by the large remnant kiln chimney at the Brickworks Marketplace (formerly Brickworks markets) in the extreme north east of Torrensville. West Croydon has a population of 4,242 as of the ABS 2021 census, and is located 5 km west of the Central Business District of Adelaide. Ridleyton is an inner northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the City of Charles Sturt. History The area incorporating the current suburb of Ridleyton was originally granted to Osmond Gilles in March 1839. He later transferred it to John Ridley, inventor of the ''stripper'' or reaping machine, in June 1842 for £275. In 1873, Ridley lodged a plan to subdivide his land, naming one part ''Ridleyton''.
