Electoral District Of Carnarvon
Carnarvon was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland that existed from 1873 to 1992. The district took in rural areas in southern Queensland, including the towns of Stanthorpe and Goondiwindi. Carnarvon Range
The Carnarvon Range is a mountain range in Central Queensland, Australia. It is a plateau section of the Great Dividing Range. The Carnarvon Range is 160 km in length. Geography North eastern parts of the range have formed a plateau known as the Consuelo Tableland. The plateau contains Aboriginal paintings and sandstone gorges, including in the Carnarvon Gorge. Part of the range is protected within the Carnarvon National Park. The range marks the northernmost limits of the Murray-Darling Basin and is the headwaters for a number of rivers including the Fitzroy River, Warrego River, Dawson River, Merivale River and the Nogoa River. Edward Costello (Queensland Politician)
Edward Costello (7 February 1883 – 27 June 1967) was an Australian soldier and grazier. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early days Costello was born in Thane's Creek near Warwick, Queensland, to parents James Costello, and his wife Elizabeth Mary (née Ham). The Costello family took up mining grazing leases at Thanes Creek in 1881. Costello was educated at Thane State School. He followed in his father's footsteps in becoming a grazier. Military service Soon after the outbreak of World War I he joined the military and was the commanding officer of the 25th Battalion in the Australian Military Forces and a major of the 11th Light Horse Regiment. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for bravery during the Battle of Semakh, on the Sea of Galilee on the 25 September 1918. Lawrence Springborg
Lawrence James Springborg (born 17 February 1968) is an Australian politician. He led the National Party in the Queensland Parliament from 2003 to 2006 and again in 2008, before becoming the first leader of the merged Liberal National Party from 2008 to 2009. He led the LNP again from 2015 to 2016 before announcing his retirement. He currently serves as Mayor of Goondiwindi Regional Council, having been elected in March 2020. As Leader of the Queensland branch of the National Party, he led the National-Liberal coalition to defeats at both the 2004 and 2006 Queensland elections. He resigned as leader after his second election defeat, and was replaced by his former deputy, Jeff Seeney. Peter McKechnie
Peter Richard McKechnie (9 February 1941 – 26 May 2011) was an Australian politician. He was born in Goondiwindi to Henry McKechnie and Heather May, ''née'' Coulton. He worked as a station hand from 1957 to 1958 and a property manager from 1961 to 1968 before becoming a grazier in Charters Towers. He married Jeanette Ruth Morwood on 23 May 1964, with whom he had two children. In April 1974 he became electoral secretary to his father, who was the Country Party member for Carnarvon in the Queensland Legislative Assembly. When his father retired at the election that year, Peter McKechnie was elected as his successor. In 1983 he was appointed Minister for Tourism, National Parks, Sport and the Arts, moving to Industry and Technology in 1986 and to Family Services and Welfare Housing in 1987. Henry Arthur McKechnie (14 March 1915 – 2 January 1984) was a wheat grower, and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early days McKechnie was born in Barraba, New South Wales, to parents William John McKechnie, and his wife Eileen Ester (née Brett) and educated at Barraba Public and Armidale high schools. Queensland Labor Party
The Queensland Labor Party (QLP) was a political party of Queensland, Australia formed in 1957 by a breakaway group of the then ruling Labor Party Government after the expulsion of Premier Vince Gair. In 1962 the party became the Queensland section of the Democratic Labor Party (DLP). The party continued to hold seats in the Queensland state parliament until 1972, then suffered a collapse in its vote and wound itself up in 1978.
