Electoral District Of Brisbane (Queensland)
Brisbane was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1912 to 1977. Based in inner central Brisbane, north of the Brisbane River, it was first created as a single member constituency for the 1912 state election, largely replacing the dual member constituency of Brisbane North. It was abolished at the 1977 state election and replaced by the new district of Brisbane Central. It was historically a safe seat for the Labor Party. John Henry "Johnno" Mann (30 June 1896 – 7 January 1973) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early years Mann was born in Rockhampton, Queensland, to parents William Joseph and his wife Janet (née Low) and was educated at Mount Morgan Boys Central School. Brisbane City was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1873 to 1878. Based in inner Brisbane, north of the Brisbane River, it was first created as a single member constituency for the 1873 colonial election, formed as a result of the abolition of the three member constituency Town of Brisbane. It was abolished at the 1878 colonial election and replaced by the new dual member constituency of North Brisbane. The Liberal Party of Australia (Queensland Division), branded as Liberal Queensland, was the Queensland division of the Liberal Party of Australia until 2008. It was initially formed in October 1943 as the Queensland People's Party (QPP), which then absorbed the disbanded Queensland branch of the United Australia Party in 1944. In 1945, the QPP had an agreement with the newly formed Liberal Party, where in the "federal sphere", QPP would be the Queensland division of the Liberal Party and would run its candidates under the Liberal Party banner in federal elections. However, in the "state sphere", it would continue to exist individually under its own banner. In July 1949, the QPP was renamed to reflect its status as the Queensland division of the Liberal Party. Harold Lowes
Harold Bertram Lowes (1 October 1926 – 22 August 2002) was an Australian lawyer and politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1974 until 1977, representing the electorate of Brisbane. Lowes was born in South Brisbane, the grandson of former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland William Bertram. His family moved around the state following his father's work for the Department of Health, and he was educated at South Brisbane State School, the Anglican Church Grammar School, and Townsville Grammar School. He served in the Australian Imperial Forces from 1945 until 1946, attaining the rank of lieutenant, and in the Citizens Military Forces from 1948 to 1952. Lowes completed his articled clerkship and the Solicitors Board course during this period, and was admitted as a solicitor in 1952. Brian Davis (politician)
Brian John Davis (7 July 1934 – 31 August 2018) was an Australian politician. He was an Australian Labor Party member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly from 1969 to 1974 and from 1977 to 1989. He was born in Toowoomba to Richard Davis and Constance Mary, ''née'' Quinlan. He attended Catholic schools, and worked as a van salesman, a taxi proprietor, a truck driver and a taxi driver before entering politics. As an official with the Transport Workers Union, he was a member of the Labor Party, serving as president of the Fortitude Valley branch and state president of the Young Labor Association (1963). In 1969 he was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly as the member for Brisbane. In 1972 he was promoted to the front bench as Shadow Minister for Welfare, Sport and Tourism.
