Electoral District Of Toowoomba North
Toowoomba North is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It was created with the 1972 redistribution. It replaced the abolished electorate of Toowoomba West. Toowoomba North is largely based around the upper half of the city of Toowoomba. It covers the suburbs north of James Street, including Newtown, Wilsonton, Mount Lofty, etc. It also includes the urban fringe area of Blue Mountain Heights, the satellite town of Highfields and Spring Bluff. It excludes certain western localities of Toowoomba, which are in the Electoral district of Condamine. Trevor Watts (politician)
Trevor John Watts (born 30 January 1968) is an Australian Liberal National politician who is the member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland for Toowoomba North, having defeated Kerry Shine at the 2012 state election. Watts was born in Essex, England and was raised in and around London. At the age of 17, he moved to Hong Kong to play basketball for South China AA. Spring Bluff, Queensland
Spring Bluff is a rural locality in the Toowoomba Region, Queensland, Australia. In the Spring Bluff had a population of 6 people. Geography Spring Bluff is situated north of the city centre via New England Highway, and is adjacent to the town of Highfields. History The area is named after a railway station in the area. The Spring Bluff railway station located on the boundary with Lockyer Valley Region local government area, was built in the 1860s to allow trains a place to stop during the steep climb from Brisbane to nearby Toowoomba. Darling Downs
The Darling Downs is a farming region on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range in southern Queensland, Australia. The Downs are to the west of South East Queensland and are one of the major regions of Queensland. The name was generally applied to an area approximating to that of the Condamine River catchment upstream of Condamine township but is now applied to a wider region comprising the Southern Downs, Western Downs, Toowoomba and Goondiwindi local authority areas. The name Darling Downs was given in 1827 by Allan Cunningham, the first European explorer to reach the area and recognises the then Governor of New South Wales, Ralph Darling. Kerry Shine
Kerry Gerard Shine (born 5 October 1948) is an Australian Labor politician who was member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland for Toowoomba North from 2001 to 2012 and served as Attorney-General of Queensland from 2006 to 2009. He was elected as a member of Toowoomba Regional Council in March 2020. Graham Healy
Graham John Healy (born 18 August 1956) is a former Australian politician. He was the National Party member for Toowoomba North in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1992 to 2001. Healy was born in Toowoomba and was a radio broadcaster and political commentator before his election. John Gerard Flynn (born 21 May 1953) is a former Australian politician. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life John Flynn was born in Brisbane, the son of John Joseph Flynn, a postman, and Kathleen Josephine, ''née'' De Hayr. He attended convent school at Rosalie and then Marist Brothers College Rosalie, before studying at the University of Queensland from 1971 to 1982, receiving a Bachelor of Science (Hons, 1975) and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (Hons). He married Kelyn Ann Blanch, a teacher, on 5 January 1975. From 1976 to 1977 he was a biochemistry tutor at the university, and from 1978 to 1982 a part-time analytical biochemist at Royal Brisbane Hospital. Alexander Carpendale "Sandy" McPhie (10 February 1929 – 5 December 2015) was an Australian politician. He was a National Party member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly from 1983 to 1989, representing the electorate of Toowoomba North. Early life McPhie was born in Charleville to Hector Kitchener McPhie and Florence Nellie, ''née'' Shanasy. He attended North Toowoomba State School and Toowoomba Grammar School before studying at The King's School in Parramatta, where he was School Captain in 1947 He then received a Certificate of Agricultural Science from Queensland Agricultural College, and was later an external student with the University of New England. The Liberal Party of Australia (Queensland Division), branded as Liberal Queensland, was the Queensland division of the Liberal Party of Australia until 2008. It was initially formed in October 1943 as the Queensland People's Party (QPP), which then absorbed the disbanded Queensland branch of the United Australia Party in 1944. In 1945, the QPP had an agreement with the newly formed Liberal Party, where in the "federal sphere", QPP would be the Queensland division of the Liberal Party and would run its candidates under the Liberal Party banner in federal elections. John Lockwood (Australian Politician)
John Aubrey Ross Lockwood (born 18 July 1936) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Lockwood was born at Babinda, Queensland, the son of Arthur William Lockwood and his wife Ailsa Marian (née Ross). He was educated at Wynnum Central State School, Manly State School, and Wynnum High School before going on to the University of Queensland where he graduated in 1962 with a BS and BM. From 1956 to 1959 he was called up for national service. In 1967, Lockwood was a medical practitioner in Toowoomba and was then the resident medical officer at the Ipswich General Hospital. Finally, he was the government medical officer in Toowoomba from 1970 to 1974. On 8 August 1964 he married Robbyn Glenyss Vickery and together had three sons and two daughters. The Australian Labor Party (Queensland Branch), commonly known as Queensland Labor or as just Labor inside Queensland, is the state branch of the Australian Labor Party in the state of Queensland.
