Electoral District Of Strathfield
Strathfield is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It was previously represented by Jodi McKay of the Labor Party until her resignation in 2021. Jason Yat-Sen Li won the by-election on the 12 February 2022 to succeed McKay. It was first created in 1988 and derives its name from the suburb of the same name. Strathfield is an urban electorate, covering 19 km² and taking in the suburbs of Burwood Heights, Burwood, Croydon, Croydon Park, Enfield, Flemington, Homebush, Homebush West, North Strathfield, Strathfield, Strathfield South and parts of Ashbury, New South Wales, Ashbury, Ashfield, New South Wales, Ashfield, Belfield, New South Wales, Belfield and Concord West, New South Wales, Concord West. Enfield, New South Wales
Enfield is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is 11 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of Municipality of Burwood. History The suburb is named after Enfield Town, a suburb of London, England. Aboriginal culture Before the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788, the Enfield area belonged to the Wangal people, a clan of the Eora tribe, which covered most of Sydney. In the early years, the Eora people were badly affected by smallpox, which arrived with the British. Many of the clans became unsustainably small and the survivors formed new bands who lived where they could. Paul Zammit
Paul John Zammit (born 28 April 1941) is a former Australian Liberal politician. He was born into the Maltese-Egyptian community in Alexandria, Egypt, the son of a Maltese father and a Greek mother. He and his family migrated to Australia in 1955, aboard SS ''Strathnaver'', and settled in the Sydney suburb of Punchbowl. Zammit was a businessman before entering politics. He was the member for the state electorate of Burwood from 1984 to 1988. After Burwood was abolished, he was elected as the member for Strathfield at the 1988 state election. In 1991, he was made Assistant Minister to the Premier Nick Greiner and held that post when John Fahey took over as Premier in 1992. In 1996, Zammit stepped down from state parliament to contest the federal Division of Lowe, which he won. The Liberal Party of Australia (New South Wales Division), commonly known as the New South Wales Liberals, is the state division of the Liberal Party of Australia in New South Wales. Belfield is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is southwest of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Canterbury-Bankstown and partly in the Municipality of Strathfield. North Strathfield is a suburb in the inner-west of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. North Strathfield is located 15 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Canada Bay. Strathfield and Strathfield South are separate suburbs, to the south. History The western part of this suburb was originally part of Homebush, while the eastern part was part of Concord.
