Myall Lakes is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is represented by Stephen Bromhead of The Nationals. Myall Lakes covers most of the former Great Lakes Council including Forster, Tuncurry, Bulahdelah, Nabiac, Failford, Pacific Palms, Smiths Lake, Bungwahl, Coolongolook and Wootton, as well as most of the former City of Greater Taree including Taree, Cundletown, Wingham, Tinonee, Old Bar, Krambach, Nabiac, Possum Brush and Hallidays Point. Stephen Bromhead
Stephen Bruce Bromhead (30 October 1957 – 16 March 2023) was an Australian politician who was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, representing Myall Lakes for the Nationals from 26 March 2011 until his retirement on 3 March 2023. He died less than two weeks later on 16 March 2023. Early years and background Bromhead was a registered nurse with two certificates, commencing work initially as a nurse. He later joined the New South Wales Police Force, serving initially as a general duties officer and then as a detective; serving for a total of 12 years in the majority around Taree and surrounding districts. Whilst working as a police officer, Bromhead studied law by correspondence and was admitted as a solicitor. He had subsequently studied and completed his Masters of Law through the University of New South Wales specialising in corporate, commercial and taxation law. Taree is a town on the Mid North Coast, New South Wales, Australia. Taree and nearby Cundletown were settled in 1831 by William Wynter. 2011 New South Wales State Election
Elections to the 55th Parliament of New South Wales were held on Saturday, 26 March 2011. The 16-year-incumbent Labor Party government led by Premier Kristina Keneally was defeated in a landslide by the Liberal–National Coalition opposition led by Barry O'Farrell. Labor suffered a two-party swing of 16.4 points, the largest against a sitting government at any level in Australia since World War II. From 48 seats at dissolution, Labor was knocked down to 20 seats—the worst defeat of a sitting government in New South Wales history, and one of the worst of a state government in Australia since federation. 1988 New South Wales State Election
Elections to the 49th Parliament of New South Wales were held on Saturday 19 March 1988. All seats in the Legislative Assembly and a third of the seats in the Legislative Council were up for election. The Labor government of Premier Barrie Unsworth was defeated by the Liberal-National Coalition, led by Opposition Leader Nick Greiner. The election took place following a redistribution of seats, which resulted in the Assembly growing from 99 to 109 seats. Issues The Labor Party, under Neville Wran and, since 1986, Barrie Unsworth, had been in office for 12 years. A number of corruption scandals had tarnished Labor's image. John Turner (Australian Politician)
John Harcourt Turner (born 22 April 1949), was deputy leader of the National Party in New South Wales from 1999 to 2003 and a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Myall Lakes between 1988 and 2011 for the National Party. He was educated at Aberdare Primary School and Sydney Grammar School. He received a Diploma of Law and practiced as a solicitor and tax agent before entering Parliament. Old Bar, New South Wales
Old Bar is a coastal town in New South Wales, Australia in Mid-Coast Council. It lies around east of Taree on the Mid North Coast, and around north of Sydney. Geography Old Bar is on the southern side of the mouth of the Manning River.
