Election Commission
An election commission is a body charged with overseeing the implementation of electioneering process of any country. The formal names of election commissions vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, and may be styled an electoral commission, a central or state election commission, an election board, an electoral council or an electoral court. Election commissions can be independent, mixed, judicial or executive. They may also be responsible for electoral boundary delimitation. In federations there may be a separate body for each subnational government. An election commission has a duty to ensure elections are conducted in an orderly manner. 2004 Iranian Legislative Election
The Iranian parliamentary elections of February 20 and May 7, 2004 were a victory for Islamic conservatives over the reformist parties. Assisting the conservative victory was the disqualification of about 2500 reformist candidates earlier in January. Background The first round of the 2004 elections to the Iranian Parliament were held on February 20, 2004. Most of the 290 seats were decided at that time but a runoff was held 2½ months later on May 7, 2004, for the remaining thirty-nine seats where no candidate gained sufficient votes in the first round. In the Tehran area, the runoff elections were postponed to be held with the Iranian presidential election of June 17, 2005. The elections took place amidst a serious political crisis following the January 2004 decision to ban about 2500 candidates — nearly half of the total — including 80 sitting Parliament deputies. Sowlat Mortazavi
Sowlat Mortazavi ( fa, صولت مرتضوی, born 5 May 1955) is an Iranian conservative politician and the current Minister of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare of Iran. He is former Vice President of Iran for Executive Affairs and also former Supervisor of Presidential Administration of Iran. He is former Mayor of Mashhad. He was elected as the Mayor by the City Council by 19 votes on 20 September 2013 and sworn in on 1 October. Before that, he was under-secretary in Politics of Ministry of Interior during Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar's time as Interior Minister. He was also Mayor of Birjand from 1990 to 1999. Sadegh Mahsouli
Sadegh Mahsouli ( fa, صادق محصولی, born 9 March 1959) is an Iranian politician who was Minister of Interior from 2008 to 2009 and Minister of Welfare and Social Security from 2009 to 2011. He was appointed to this post on 19 November 2009, as part of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's second cabinet after a Parliamentary vote. From 24 March 2008 to 9 August 2009, he was Minister of Interior of Ahmadinejad's first cabinet. He was succeeded Ali Kordan who was impeached by Parliament in November 2008. Mahsouli withdrew his nomination once when the president nominated him for the position of oil minister in 2005 after admitted to Iranian parliament that he was worth $160 million. In 2011, it was announced that Ministry of Welfare will be merged with Ministry of Labour and Mahsouli will be left cabinet after it.
