Eleanor McClatchy
Eleanor Grace McClatchy (1895–1980) was an American newspaper executive, serving as president of the McClatchy newspapers from 1936 until 1978. She was the youngest daughter of Charles Kenny McClatchy. The McClatchy Company, commonly referred to as simply McClatchy, is an American publishing company incorporated under Delaware's General Corporation Law and based in Sacramento, California. It operates 29 daily newspapers in fourteen states and has an average weekday circulation of 1.6 million and Sunday circulation of 2.4 million. In 2006, it purchased Knight Ridder, which at the time was the second-largest newspaper company in the United States (Gannett was, and remains, the largest). In addition to its daily newspapers, McClatchy also operates several websites and community papers, as well as a news agency, McClatchy DC Bureau, focused on political news from Washington, D.C. McClatchy (November 1, 1858 – April 27, 1936), was the editor of '' The Sacramento Bee'' and a founder of McClatchy Newspapers, the family-owned company that was forerunner to The McClatchy Company. Sacramento Civic Repertory Theater
The Sacramento Theatre Company (STC) is a non-profit Regional Professional Theatre in Sacramento, California. It is the oldest theater troupe in the city. History STC was formed in 1942 to entertain troops stationed in Sacramento during World War II. It was originally called the Sacramento Civic Repertory Theatre, until they moved in 1949 into their first theater home, The Eaglet Theatre. The Eaglet was built from canvas and wood to match the Eagle Theatre from the California Gold Rush period. The new theater benefited from the patronage of Eleanor McClatchy. Today STC is now located at the H Street Theatre Complex in Midtown Sacramento. STC stages plays in three performance spaces.
