Eldaafer (foaled March 13, 2005) is a retired racehorse best known for his wins in the Fall Championship Stakes, Breeders' Cup Marathon, Brooklyn Handicap, and Greenwood Cup. Background Eldaafer is a bay gelding with an irregular star but no white leg markings. He is sired by A.P. Indy, who won the Belmont Stakes and the Breeders Cup Classic. He has also sired other greats such as, Blue Grass Stakes winner Pulpit, Preakness Stakes winner Bernardini and Belmont Stakes winner Rags to Riches, his grandsire is Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew. Greenwood Cup Stakes
The Greenwood Cup Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds and older, over a distance of one-and-one-half miles on the dirt held annually in September during the fall meeting at Parx Casino and Racing in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. The current purse is $200,000. History The race is named for Greenwood Racing, Inc. who purchased Philadelphia Park in December 1990. The inaugural running of the event was on 8 June 2002 under handicap conditions on held on the turf course as the Greenwood Cup Handicap. The event was won by multiple Grade I winner, the Dr. John A. Old Friends Equine
Old Friends is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) equine retirement facility in Georgetown, Kentucky, accredited by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA). The organization started with one leased paddock and two horses, but now owns 136 acres, Dreamchase Farm, with additional leased pasturage. It is the only Thoroughbred retirement facility in the United States that accepts stallions on a regular basis. Old Friends is currently home to over 150 retired Thoroughbred athletes. Brooklyn Handicap
The Brooklyn Invitational Stakes (formerly known as the Brooklyn Handicap) is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually in early June at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, on Long Island. It currently is a Grade II event open to four-year-olds and up willing to race one and one-half miles on dirt. It was a Grade 1 race prior to 1993. Historical notes First run on May 14, 1887 at Gravesend Race Track on Coney Island, New York, it was won by Emery & Cotton's Dry Monopole in track record time for the mile and one-quarter distance. Turfway Park Fall Championship Stakes
The Fall Championship Stakes was an American Grade III Thoroughbred horse race held annually at Turfway Park in Florence, Kentucky. Open to horses age three and older, it was contested on Polytrack synthetic dirt. It had been part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series from 2008 through 2010 when the distance was changed to one and one half miles (12 furlongs) with the winner automatically qualifying for the Breeders' Cup Marathon at a similar distance. The Latonia Championship Stakes was created in 1919 by the Kentucky Jockey Club as a race for three-year-olds at the now defunct Latonia Race Track in Latonia, Kentucky. During the height of the Great Depression the race was suspended in 1934 and the racetrack closed permanently in 1939. In 1964, the race was revived by the newly built (1959) Turfway Park. Hawthorne Gold Cup Handicap
The Hawthorne Gold Cup Handicap is a Grade III race for thoroughbred horses run at Hawthorne Race Course in Stickney, Illinois each year. The Hawthorne Gold Cup trophy has always been made of solid gold. The Hawthorne Gold Cup is currently a Grade III event for three-year-olds and up, at one and one-quarter miles (ten furlongs) on the dirt, and currently carries a purse of $250,000. The Hawthorne Gold Cup was not run in 1934 and 1936 as a result of the Great Depression, not during World War II from 1940 through 1945, and not in 1978 when the grandstand was destroyed by fire. Belmont Park
Belmont Park is a major thoroughbred horse racing facility in the northeastern United States, located in Elmont, New York, just east of the New York City limits. It was opened on May 4, 1905. It is operated by the non-profit New York Racing Association, as are the Aqueduct Racetrack and Saratoga Race Course. The Tokyo City Cup Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually at the beginning of April at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. A Graded stakes race, Grade III event raced on dirt at a distance of miles (12 furlongs), it is open to horses aged four and older. Run as the San Bernardino Handicap prior to 2005, the race's name honors the partnership between Santa Anita Park and Ohi Racecourse in Tokyo, Japan. The race was open to three-year-olds only in 1957 and for three-year-olds and up from 1958 through 1967. The Pan American Stakes is a Grade II American Thoroughbred horse race for horses that are four years or older held over a distance of one and one-half miles (twelve furlongs) on the turf usually scheduled annually in late March as an under card event on Florida Derby day at Gulfstream Park, Hallandale Beach, Florida.
